For health reasons or otherwise, have you ever had plastic surgery?

When I was 18 I was in a car accident (guy ran me off the road). One of my injuries was a second degree burn on my right arm. Unfortunately, it was not treated correctly in the ER, and the scar was even worse than it would have been anyway. It was on my upper arm, so not many people could even ever see it. My insurance paid for plastic surgery to be done on my arm. It was done, even though I still have a long scar. It isn't the prettiest thing, but I don't really care.
How about you guys? My cousin had to have reconstructive breast surgery after she had a mastectomy. Do you know anyone who has to have plastic surgery for health reasons? Or maybe you just had it to improve your appearance or confidence?

No, I have never experienced having plastic surgery. I'm sorry about your arm, and glad that technology has advanced that you can improve it, minimizing the scars. Personally, unless I have been in an accident or something, and got badly disfigured, reconstructive surgery is something I don't think about.
As for women, who do it for improving their appearances, I think that that is their choice. For some, I think its very reasonable. The ones that I don't understand are the pretty ones, who keep trying to improve themselves. I think that has more to do with how they view themselves and not really what their physical appearance is.

What is weird about the scar, is that it is now longer than the one I had, but it looks better. They cut out the entire original scar from my arm, then pulled the skin back together and sewed it up. They had to cut longer than what the scar was, to be able to do it.

If i had an accident and plastic surgery is
needed to cure my skin, why not? I will do
it. But i don't see my self having a surgery
to improve my looks. I may not beautiful or
pretty. But I'm contented with my physical
appearance. Strictly no plastic surgery on
my body parts.

Personally I do not know anyone who had plastic surgery. I haven't had it and I don't know if I could. I would have to be pretty torn up tp do it.

I am lucky enough not to have had to experience anything like that.....I have a friend though that also had a mastectomy and did the reconstructive surgery. In our state insurance is required to cover that type of plastic surgery which I think is very important.

I have never had any type of plastic surgery. I don't think I would ever opt for plastic surgery unless I was in an accident and I needed some re constructive plastic surgery. Other than medically necessary plastic surgery I think it is a waste of time and money.

Back in 1972 I was in a bad car accident. My neck was broken, jaw broken and I had internal injuries as well. One scar where my bottom teeth came through my lip was bad. The scar from the tracheotomy was too and I has plastic surgery to cover those. They did an excellant job.

I think that is the main purpose of plastic surgery... to correct the damage from accidents... i have never had one... but i think i will if incase i was in an accidents and it left me with a lot of scars... i will do it just to gain my confidence back... but for improving my appearance... i don't think i can do it...

The most common plastic surgery done is rhinoplasty, people getting their nose done. It's not usually for anything other than the person doesn't like their nose. Since they have to break your nose to actually fix it to your liking, I think I'd just deal with my nose unless it was the size of a platter.

Hi AmbiePam.
I have had a number of Plastic Surgeries in my life. I have got a birthmark and from about the age of 2 and a 1/2 I had about 12 Plastic Surgeries to lessen the size of the Birth Mark. It has grown a bit but I am not that worried about more Operations, they are so much hassle, pain and they take their time to get over them.
Catch ya later

I've never had plastic surgery, and doubt I ever would unless I was in a horrible accident that left me badly scarred.
I have a large scar on my leg from a school related accident, and have been told that it would be easy to make look better through plastic surgery, but I don't care about it. Another war wound from life, and it reminds me that I must not do cartwheels inside with brick windowsills around.

hi ambiepam nope I have never had plastic surgery although
when I fell two years ago and smashed my left shoulder so
badly I had to have an artifical shoulder joing replacement put in myshoulder, I was afraid of a big ugly scar on my left arm
but the surgeon was really good,I have a very fine line about six or seven inches long on myupper left arm and its now almost disappeared. so I lucked out there, but myleft arm did not regain much usage so am very diasppointed, i went through a ton of physical theraphy too but I still cannot lift my left armup even to comb my hair. lol but I am coping just fine anyway . I was so lucky that I did not hit my head when I fell and kill myself so all in all I was lucky.could have been even worse.

My mom had an eyelift when she was in her forties. She then
had another one and a face lift in her 60's. She is very
young looking to begin with so I could never understand
why she even bothered. But, she is very vain and felt
she had to do this. She is now 77. I haven't seen her in
7 years. I'm quite sure she still looks great. When I
was young people always thought she was my sister. That
always upset me. I probably look older than she does now.
I'm serious, I haven't had any plastic surgery. I would
only have it if it was medically necessary.

Hi Ambie. I had a femoral artery bypass done on my right leg in 1999. It did not heal properly, and I started to hemorrhage, and in order to save my life had emergency surgery to stop the bleeding. This was a quick, down and dirty surgery, as I said to save my life. Two days later, they took me back into surgery to complete the job, and they had to do plastic surgery to close the incision properly. They should have done the plastic surgery at the time of the original surgery, but, I have found that doctors sometimes do only what they have to do and not what they should do.
Then, last year I had to have the femoral artery on my left leg done. Everything was going really well until about a month later when the incision became infected. They put me back in the hospital, reopened the incision and found that I had MRSA in it. Well, to make a long story short, I had to have four more operations in the next three months. The last four surgeries were done by a plastic surgeon, who had to do skin grafts, and, where there was one incision, I now have three different scars on my thigh. It looks horrible, but, if they hadn't gotten the leg healed, I would have lost my leg.
That is my story, and I am sorry that I posted such a long response. Just figured I would tell you all the gory details. LOL Have a wonderful day.
