If the newspaper did they would be demanding every law obeding citizen have a gun, propably government provided, but of course they do not. The Washington Post is doing the yeomen's work to encourage the District of Columbia to violate the SCOTUS's decision on the D.C vs Heller case. The Post not only called the decision misguided, but opined that the District’s mayor and council would be on “solid moral and legal ground” if they re-crafted the District’s gun control laws to make them “as tough as possible” under the Supreme Court’s “puzzling mandate.” What was created was eerily similar to the same law that was ruled unconstitutional by the lower court, and also the high court. I do wonder what the reaction would have been from the Post if the SCOTUS had ruled that government could use press control?

You bring up a good point as 'press control' is something which politicians would like to impose on their critics. We could live to see it. The 'Fairness Doctrine' is a first step toward 'media control'.
