All the businesses around here are promoting Staycations....stay at home vacations. They are offering tons of perks and special deals on different kinds of package deals like camping spots, coupons for local restaurants etc. So if someone wants to just stay home they can find some origional things to do in our local area! Are you doing a staycation this year or still going with your origional vacation plans?

I think it's a good idea to offer deals at restaurants during this heat wave. Am sure many people are staying home anyway because of the cost of gas. My husband will be gone for a week to 10 days with his softball team, leaving next weekend. Does that count since I'll be home alone and it will be very peaceful in the house? lol It's my staycation. His team is going to Minnesota to play in a tournament. I don't have any interest in going and especially in this weather sitting outside to watch games. I can stay home where it's cool or leave as I please. I have dog and cat duty so that's my job while he is gone.

Hi jillhill. I, too, have noticed this new word, "staycation." We've just returned from a 5 day trip to Vegas, so we've already had a little vacation this year. My husband and I tease each other--5 years ago we moved to FL, and we constantly feel like we're on vacation, even though we both work. On the weekends, we say, "why not" to activities because "we're on vacation." There's something about living here year round and having a pool out the back door that spells "vacation" to us. So, in a way, we're on a permanent "staycation." Take care.

Woo Hoo for you! I did go earlier this summer and will go again the first week of Sept to a resort in Northern Minnesota with my son and his family...next year I get to go to New York for the first time! I am so excited!

New York sounds like a great trip. I've been there only once and it was to New York City several years ago. You will have lots of fun planning a trip to NY. After all, the planning is at least half the fun. Take Care.

I guess we always have Staycation here since we don't go anywhere. In the summer is when our grandson comes to visit us and we just do things around here with him. Not exactly Staycation but close enough. I guess if mosquitos weren't too bad and if we didn't have a system in the Gulf of Mexico that possibly might come our way to at least give us some wind and rain I would love to get a tent and camp out in the back yard, he would love to do that.

That would be fun! My son and family are getting a tent too just to use around here. This weekend if I wasn't going away they are going camping for the first time and invited me.....dang!

Thats pretty much the only type of vacations I ever take. I am a homebody by nature and had rather be at home than the hassle of going somewhere.

My kids don't live around here so most of my vacations are based on where they are living at the time or I wouldn't have ever gotten to go the places I have been...I like staying home for the most part too.
