10 days of family visiting and I am buggered and broke LOL.

] Glad to be back on Mylot again after being away since my son's school finished in June. My soon to be six year old son had his first set of swimming lessons and passed with flying colors. He was told by his instructor that he can skip the next two lessons and move onto the regular classes for age 6 and up. I enrolled him for another 8 lessons in August, before school starts. I think we have a natural on our hands and hope to continue his lessons and swimming for quite some time. I also had a visit from my Mum, her two sisters and Uncle for 10 days and it was full on sight seeing, cooking and their favorite pasttime shopping. We had a wonderful 10 days together, seeing most of the monuments and museums downtown DC, and even got to take a tour of the US Capitol and meet the American Samoa Representative to US Congress. We celebrated their last day and my son's 6th birthday with a BBQ at Mason Necks National Park, playing ball, throwing toys around and eating delicious marinated steak and hamburgers with potato and green salads, eating yummy chocolate cake that didn't turn out well but tasted fine (first attempt of making it myself LOL) and blueberry muffins with icing and sprinkles. We cooked every night (we thought a lot cheaper to cook than go out dining with 6 adults and a child) and did as much as we could before they left for Connecticut on Sunday. My Mum and Aunty fly back to New Zealand tommorrow with suitcases full of goodies for my neices and nephews (13 to be exact! thank God for Target and those two for $10 sale items. ) I am now relaxing and trying to catch up on my sleep, get the house back in order and attempt to get through the loads of washing of sheets/towels etc by the end of this week. My husband left for Guatemala this morning for two weeks and then goes onto Belize and returns August 19th. My son and I have the house to ourselves and we are not going to be doing much over the next few weeks except his swimming lessons and perhaps a movie or go to the park. How are your Summer Holidays so far? I've missed some of my friends on here and will try to catch up with their discussions soon.

You may be broke, but it sounds like you had fun! My kids broke up from school last friday 18th July, we went to a fun festival thing that my town had set up and it was majorly disappointing as there was nothing there. The weather which had been pants up until Sunday has now changed and gone from cold and 62 degrees to being the opposite humid and 72 degrees which is great! I am on day three of the summer holidays and my kids have tried desperately to spend all my money but so far I have resisted and not spent much at all!! We are planning some days out but not until August.

It was a lot of fun especially seeing Mum again after two years. She is a lot better now than she was before but my Aunty thinks she is depressed. She has lost so much weight in a very short time, and walks when she is anxious. Her moods changed often too and I noticed a few times she would cry for no reason. My Aunt tried talking to her about seeing someone or getting anti-depressants and she wasn't having it. I think the thought of seeing a shrinks means to her a sign of weakness. I even got scolded by her for asking "if she was ok". I tried talking to her but she has her own way of going about things. I hope she is going to be ok. Enjoy the summer holidays. My son is enjoying his at the moment with swimming lessons and activities. He has made a new friend and so we are going to go with him and his mom to the movies on Saturday to see Space Chimps.

If you don't mind me asking, how did your mom get diagnosed with depression? and get prescribed tablets? Whenever someone tries to talk to my mum about getting help, she gets defensive and starts making excuses. I'm not sure where to start.

It does sound a lot like depression, my Mum has just been diagnosed with it and is on some tablets. I hope that your Mum will be OK, it is worrying for us when we dont know what to do.

Speaking about husband coming home, he arrives tommorrow morning. Apparently the computer equipment won't arrive in Guatemala until 4th August so two weeks there with nothing to do is useless so they are heading back tommorrow. It's not his fault as another division handles all the equipment shipping. He is happy to be coming home though because then we get to celebrate Maddy's birthday on his actual birthday this Saturday.

Oh alright. Well it's cool that he will be home for Maddy's birthday. It would have been a bummer not to have his dad there. I know that whenever I have went to a party and expected someone who didn't come, I can feel a strong sense of that person's absense. My birthday falls on a Saturday this year also. It will be the ninth of next month.

Hi, maddysmommy. I am so glad to hear that the visit with your family went so well. I remember your discussion about how to sleep everyone when they came. What did you end up doing? Sounds like your son had a fun birthday party and that the visit was a great success. That is wonderful.

Hi makingpots. My mum insisted I put my Aunt and Uncle in our room on the king sized bed and her and my Aunty in my sons room on a single airbed and the other on the bottom bunk of my son's bed. My son slept on top and my hubby and I slept in the lounge. It was only for 2 days before my Uncle had to leave for LA, so then all three ladies slept in our room (two on the king size bed and one on the airbed) and my hubby and I with our son in his room. It worked out in the end :) We managed and had a lot of fun :)

Nice to have you back. Always good to have you around Mylot. Our summer holidays were really nice. Hubby got extra time off work to spend around the house. So we hung out together at the house and had fun. Can't really got to the local beaches during summer cause it's too blistering hot and the tourists have over run everything. But by October the beaches will be clear and we can go enjoy the local hot spots!

hi beautyqueen. That would of been nice spending time with the hubby even if it was spent around the home. Just being together makes it worth the while.

HUGS Hi my friend, and thanks for the welcome back. Glad to hear you're having a fun time with the Grandkids too. We love the library too and Maddy has almost completed his reading list of 15 books - only 5 more to go and then he gets a booklet of coupons for various places mostly food ones I think. How is your neck and back issues? are you feeling a lot better? or is it still the same? I need to catch up on your discussions too!

Welcome back and I am glad you had so much fun with your family. Its great to have family come over and visit, especially when you don't see them often. But its also good to see them go and let the house get back to normal. I am hoping to see a lot of you now that the family visit is over. Get used to this new layout though, it seems that it's here to stay!

When I logged on yesterday I thought I had gone to the wrong site and had not realised that the layout had changed. Very different and will take a little while to get use to. Easier to manoeuvre around with all the tabs I think. We shall see!

sounds like a great holiday and that you had fun! and lots of cooking! It's a large family that came to visit you so no wonder it took a toll on the budget as well. still, i guess there's nothing like family, even if you see each other very rarely. goodness, to fly from NZ to DC must have taken ages and ages! i hope they were flying on a nice airline and had nice stops in between. just thinking of the flight makes me feel all weary!

It was a lot of flying for my mum and aunt. They stayed overnight in Australia before taking a long flight to LA then to New York. On their way back, they stayed overnight in Auckland, NZ before heading down to Wellington, NZ. Mum said their luggage got lost so hopefully they have them now. One of them was full of pressies for my neices and nephews (all 13 of them). We had a fun time and I really enjoyed seeing Mum again. I'm going to take it easy now since the budget won't allow us to do much for the rest of the summer, but that's ok, we had our fun with our family. Thanks squaretile.

Hi hun, it sounds like you had a wonderful time when your folks came for a visit, that was a big house full it sounds like to me. Where did you put them all? My sisters and I usually get a cabin this time of year, I have 5 sisters , and we spend the time reconnecting. This year it didn't work out, to many weddings and graduations. I am hoping things will be easier next year to get together It sounds like your son is doing great, what fun. Swimming is a big deal here. I know a young man, who took second in State last year. Hope the rest of your summer is full of fun as well. *hugs*

Hi Deea :) My Aunt and Uncle had our room, my mum and other aunt had my sons room, he slept of the top bunk, my mum on the bottom bunk and my aunt on an airbed. My hubby and I slept in the lounge on the floor - wasn't too bad. When my Uncle left for LA for work for 4 days, all three ladies were in our room and my hubby and I were with my son in his room. It was fun though and we did have a great time. Maddy was bored with us oldies haha. I signed him up for his next set of lessons which start in two weeks so he is looking forward to that. We are just going to take it easy until school starts in Sept.
