Shower curtain or shower doors?

My sister just bought a new house and is taking down the shower curtains and putting up doors. There are many good things about the doors but I find for me I prefer curtains....first I can change the decor every years if I want...second when they get crappy looking I can just toss them...where doors sometimes get tacky because of hard water or soap build up. So which do you prefer in your home? Shower curtains or doors?

For now that kids are still young, I prefer to have shower doors as the curtains keeps on falling. My kids likes to play in the bathroom - in the shower room and bath tub. And they tends to play with the shower curtain. Next time you'll see the shower curtain in the floor!

I am pretty sure I've ripped off or ripped at a shower curtain as a kid. They are good for decor, but when it comes to kids it might be a good idea to always get the cheap ones lol.

We have a shower door in one bathroom and a shower curtain in another. I prefer the shower door. It looks nicer in my opinion and is not that difficult to keep clean. Don't have any problems either with water seeping out around the door as it sometimes does with a curtain. Plus the bathroom with the curtain is a tub which means I have to step up to get into the shower. I would prefer to be closer to the ground just as a precaution. Our tub also gets slick at times and is probably due to shampoo buildup.

I do not like shower doors at all. I used to have the door and it got where it was so hard to clean. I now have shower curtain and love it.No more doors for me.

I have only had shower curtains. But if I were to design my idea bathroom, I would have shower doors. I would try one of those automatic shower cleaners.

Hi Jill, I haven't a shower at present but in the past when I have had one unless it has been a separate cubicle I had always preferred curtains for the exact reason you state really. I don't think I would have so much of a problem where I am living now as the water is very soft with a door but a curtain is easier. Ellie :D

We have both in our apartment, separate shower with door in the master bathroom and shower curtain in the other. I prefer shower curtains as you can toss them in the washing machine for a clean and replace them whenever they get tacky. It's a pain in the butt cleaning the shower doors LOL

That's what I don't understand! LOL...in her other house she complained about having to try to keep the door clean and free from soap scum etc! LOL...I do like changing things too so I am all for shower curtains.

Ours have to be shower curtains since the bathtubs and showers are all in one in both bathrooms. I would prefer the tub be seperate and have a shower with glass doors.

Ya know, jillhill, this is a tough one! I actually have a curtain in our master bath and doors in the other bath. I think I gotta go with the doors. We are getting ready to remodel the "other bath" first, and then our master bath. We will probably end up with doors in both. Of course, they have those nice clear, doors now that "swing" open instead of slide. I think I want those!

Shower curtains all the way! I've had shower doors and I think I spent more time trying to keep them from all the hard water stains then actually showering. And if you buy the right fabric curtain you can usually wash it in the washer and extend the life. Or like you said if it gets icky you can just toss it or you decide you need a change you can switch out with one with another pattern on it.

Well we don't have our own house yet but I have showered in a shower with doors and one with just a curtain. I think I would prefer a curtain though becuase you can change it out like you said, and a curtain can really give accent to the bathroom. I've seen some beautiful curtains online that I'd like to get when we do get our own place. I also like that if you have neutral colors in your bathroom you can change the curtain and esentially change the decor with it. Throw down a few bathmats, a toilet seat cover and voila there ya have it!

Hi, jillhill. I would rather have shower curtains up instead of a shower door. My dad and sister had shower doors in their house, and I did not like it too much. It made the bathroom very damp with moisture because of the steam from the shower itself. I like shower curtains better, this is pretty much what I am used to using anyway.

i would love doors but they are old fashioned and wouldnt ventalate well during a shower and i have to have to where all the steam isnt trapped in with me due to asthma.. and they are easier to clean.. but i guess im stuck with curtains since im not gonna have them installed

hi jill! i think i would prefer a door for a shower so that there won't be incident of accidentally opening the curtain because they didn't know there's someone inside. i know you can see if a person is inside through the shower curtain but what about kids? they just open anything that they can open not really checking if there's anyone inside and they don't really care about it. ^__^;; if there's a door kids won't easily open it and other people too.

I wish I had a choice in this matter. I live in a rented appartment and it has a sliding door. The bad thing about the door is that it sometimes doesn't slide so smoothly, gets stuck and is a pain to clean. Shower curtains would have been more decorative, simple to use and dispose off. I could take off the sliding door and put my own curtains but than keeping those glass doors safe around the apartment would be another headache, where would i put them??

I prefer the curtains as well. It is much easier to toss them in the wash than to have to clean a door. Doors can break too easily as well. Not good.

I prefer shower curtains as well. I agree with you that you can change them or throw them away when they get old or look bad. Also, when you get sick of the decor it is so cheap to change it. The door is a look but you are stuck with it. I however live in an apartment so for me, I would only get curtains so I can take them with me. I also like putting the protect clear shower curtain on the inside so that way it doesn't damage my curtain. Those you can get for a couple of bucks. I don't like cleaning the bathroom and adding a door is just another thing to clean.
