Why Do We Sleep Laying Down?

Why is it that we have to go through the trouble of finding the right bed, and when we're tired, we have to lay down, then after laying down we fall asleep?
Why is it that they don't have an upright sleep system, rather than a sleep system (the bed) that makes it so you usually wake up sore and stiff, usually because the bed puts pressure on all the wrong places...
So yeah, does anyone have any idea why it's ''normal'' and 'expected' to sleep laying down?

....hmnnn.....well i'll ask you a question...have you tried to sleep standing or while sitting dowm?.....i did and both made me feel hell the time i woke up.....wa!....im too sore all over that i cant even stand straight for hours.....
....mayve that's one reason why we sleep laying down.....(",)

I've never tried sleeping standing up, though i gather that the muscles and bones would be quite sore with all of that pressure, i was just thinking about some kind of system that would keep you upright or semi upright, without putting stress on your body, as it is, laying down still puts quite a bit of stress on your body.

Hi, Spitfire179. I think it is because our bodies can rest so much more better when we are laying down. If we sleep sitting up we pose a greater risk for having neck, back and shoulder pain. We need to be able to stretch out so that we can feel like we have rested some.

I think it's because it takes a certain amount of energy or something, to stay standing up, and that when we lay down we totally relax. My husband doesn't need to find the right bed, he'd fall asleep on the pot if I'd let him. hahahahahahahahaha I've seen him sleep in all kinds of weird places, and all kinds of weird positions. It really is funny. I found him sleeping in the drivers seat of a rent-a-car in the drive way, one dday. hahahah I should have gotten the video camera for that one.
