I graduated BS Hotel and Restaurant Management in College .My course talked abot all aspects of the hospitality industry. We had exciting subjects such as Food Preparation, Food Merchandising, Bar and Beverage, Catering, Baking and so on. In my 4 years in college, we , as a class, have done hundreds of catering for the school. When I entered, I never really cooked.Sure I knew how to fry or boil an egg. I knew how to cook rice without the rice cooker, I knew how to cook basic pasta sauces but that was it. My course gave me the chance to learn how to experiment. I know culinary schools are really expensive. I suggest that you try our new recipes everyday until you get he hang of cooking. As for the terms, you can easily use the internet to do some research. In cooking, you do not have to STRICTLY follow the recipe. You can substitute ingredients. However in Baking, following the recipe is a must to be successful. Try different dishes. Ask your daughter to do the taste test. Ask for her (and family and friends') opinions. Watching cooking shows ca also help a great deal. Try watching Iron Chef or all those cooking shows in Lifestyle Channel. Rachel Ray is the best for beginners. I wish you good luck! I hope you try this out and do not lose hope about cooking. It's a skill to be learned.
