I don't know if any of you have this problem of mine. Sometimes I feel really sleepy during office hours. I tried sleeping earlier, but it doesn't work. I don't really move much while in the office. Most of the time, I am in front of the PC, typing codes. Have you ever face this problem? How do you avoid getting sleepy/ drowsy?

Whenever i feel sleepy, first i would choose to listen to the music immediately to fresh myself, sometimes it takes effect. And if the condition permits,i would take a nap about half an hour then continue to study. You also can drink tea to clear yourself,or stand for a while,or simply drink more pure water to stimulate yourself.

Take cafe,it does a lot in stimulating you. However, don't be addicted to it because it could be very dangerous.

I know it is a common problem. Most of the time I am in front of my pc and I don't move too much too. I drink coffee during the day, I make some stretching and I go to the bathroom and wash my face with cold water.

And one more thing. I was saw on NGC one time when they had s special episode on food and its effect on the body, avoid carbs if you want to stay awake and alert. Eat food with lots of protein instead. That means no pata, croissants, toast, and noodles. Go for fish (tuna), eggs, bacon, and the likes. hope this helps. 8)

I see. But breakfast in Asia, mainly consist of carbs. We have noodles, porridge, and others as breakfast. But recently I tried to have a high fibre breakfast instead. Muesli and half boil egg. Or maybe wholemeal bread.

COFFEE is the answer to that. I used to work on a graveyard shift and I couldnt really help but to be asleep. Good thing there is that coffee machine. I refill my mug every hour to keep awake.

Well, as I am also stuck in the office from 9-6, what I did sometimes was to take a smoke break (even when I am not actually smoking). I take the privillages of me being a smoker to slack and just walk around and amuse myself. Other times, I will just walk to the pantry, get myself a cup of tea and snacks and snack on that whilst surfing the net. It works wonders =) Try it yourself and update me k??

Ya,usually I make tea to freshen up myself. Green tea. And when I go take the hot water, I will stop by my colleagues place for a short chit chat. HEHE. not bad. But once I look at my monitor, the sleepiness comes back again.

Yes. I felt many times. During those drowsy minutes I will walk around the office. I wont drink coffee or tea. There is a fresh fruit stall in the basement of our office building. I will go there and have some fresh fruits (not fruit juice). Recently I started myLotting. It drives the sleepy feeling at once. This response also happened in such a situation only! hehehe!!! Cheers!

For most people they would drink coffee to stay awake at work but since I don't drink Coffee usually I whenever I feel drowsy I just stand up in my desk and do some stretching. Sometimes I go to the comfort room and wash my face to freshen up as well as to shake off my drowsiness.

I don't really like drinking coffee, thus I don't take them. I like your idea of standing up and do stretching. I shall try that. I tried washing my eyes before. Didn't work for long.HAHA

May be there is a certain food when you eat, makes you feel sleeping or sleep completely. This is always happens in the afternoon after taking midday meals. Or the type of clothes you wear some clothe or too worm whenever you put on, like woolen sweater and jackets, again my be you are using perfume we are too stimulative and body lotions. Another option is ma be yous digestion system is small that whenever you take any meal and to be digested is heavy. But generally the main contribution is that when there were too much work you did in yous house untill you sleep late and wolf up earlier.

hi! We have the same problem. I get really sleepy when i'm doing the morning shift. I'm not much of a morning person, so i really get unbelievably sleepy when i work the morning shift. Like you, i face the computer 8 hours a day, and read boring scientific papers. So i did a little researching and got some tips from health experts. And i'm bonna share them with you. 1-2 hours before work, drink coffee, as caffein takes effect at most 3 hours after drinking coffee. If it is impossible for you to drink coffee before work (like me), drink coffee while at work. Take your caffein boost slowly so it lasts the whole time that your working. Try to stretching evry once in a while, too. And if you can, have some chocolates or candies handy. The sugar should keep you up (i personally suck on lollypops to keep me awake). Do these and they might help you satey awake at work. It worked quite well for me. 8)

Definitely, most experience this problem especially in summer and my treatment is having enough sleep during the nights and a short siesta during the noon.

I work 12 hour night shifts so I know your pain! I usually browse the internet and do stuff on a few of the sites I earn $$ on. Other times I will listen to music, or get up for a quick walk around the office to wake me up. If you work with people you could also try talking to them to pass the time. We come up with some crazy conversations here, you wouldn't believe them if I told you! Good luck passing the time, it's no fun to be bored, sleepy, or drowsy when you are only half way through your shift!
