Fifth disease is called by that name because it was classified as the fifth identified childhood rash-related illness. It is a rash that looks like your cheeks have been slapped and the rest of your skin gets covered in a red, lacy looking rash. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_disease I am asking who's had it, especially as a kid, because when I got it, it itched SO MUCH that ever since that time my skin has been particularly sensitive to itches and tickles. Oddly, the wikipedia article says it "may itch" which seems like an understatement to me. :)

I have never had it myself, but one of my old bosses was telling us one day at work that her daughter had gotten it. I had never heard of it before then. She said that her daughter looked like she had been smacked across the face really hard for a few days.

Yeah, your cheeks are usually the first sign it's coming, they'll be reddish purple and then BAM! your body is covered in red with white spots. Totally weird.

I had fifth disease when I was little. I remeber you couldn't go out in the sun and you had to take lukewarm baths beacuse the heat would bring out the rash even more. I really don't remember how itchy it was.

Uggh, the baths were awful. My parents tried doing an oatmeal bath but it made me itch while I was in it. My mom covered me with ice packs to numb the itch.
