When did your little one begin to walk

My 10 month old daughter started to crawl a few days ago. She really wants to walk because she keeps getting up on her 2 feet but I see that she is not ready yet. Her legs are still not strong enough and her balance is way off. I am glad that she began to crawl because I now see that its going to benefit her.Her pediatrician told me not to worry if she doesn't crawl because its not considered a milestone. He said some kids don't even crawl , they just start to walk. I know see that crawling will strengthen her body and prepare her for walking. Many people would not agree with me , however I am just stating my opinion based on my observation from my daughter. I was just wondering when your child began crawling and how long after did they begin walking. Or if they didn't crawl at all when did they begin to walk. I know every child is different and develops differently. I am just curious and its fun to see all the different stories.

You will surely receive a wide range of responses on this one. Every child develops so differently. I have four kids. All were early walkers. My first barely crawled. We traveled with a carnival so she spent most of her days in a jumper or walker, but she also got a lot of tummy time in the play pen. She was walking at 8 months and running by the end of 9. My second didn't crawl either. She scooted all over the place and started climbing around 7 or 8 months, and was walking at 9 months. My son crawled early, and stayed there for a while. I guess he liked the view ((chuckles)) he started around 6 months but didn't get to walking till around 10 months. He was all arms and legs (still is) so I guess it took him a little longer to gain his balance. My youngest crawled, but not much before she walked, maybe a week or two. She was walking just as soon as the others..towards the end of 9 months almost 10. But she crawled like crazy after she started walking. It just depended how fast she wanted to get to where she was headed.

Well I have to say that all of your kids started to crawl at an early time. That is awesome. My daugther , i guess she is lazy. I can't even picture her walking. Of course I know it will happen sooner or later but it just doesn't see real at this point in time. Thank you for your response!

Nah, he's not lazy, just developing at her own rate. My kids were all early walkers. My brother didn't walk until he was 18 months. And I've had several friends whith children who walked at 12 or 13 months. She is not behind.

Mine crawled at around 9 months and walked at 15 months. She was so comfortable crawling and used to chase me round the house on her knees and it was her quickest method so she did not want to try walking for sometime until she saw our neighbour's little boy who was the same age and he'd been walking a while and realised she could do it too and she was up and walking almost soon after! She will walk when she's ready, some start sooner than others. Some are more timid and start later (like in the case of mine) I guess..

My little girl crawled at 7 months and walked at 10 months. She was very tiny and I remember people would just stare at her and wonder how in the world this little tiny baby was walking! It just looked so strange! My son, on the other hand, preferred crawling because he was good at it and could get around faster. He was 13 months when he finally began walking. I know a lot of kids are later than that, but at the time, it seemed like it would never happen. He was my firstborn, so I was anxious for it to happen! Have fun...I miss that stage.

Doing everything at an early age runs in my family. I was a big baby and took my first step at 6 months then figured I made my point so didn't take another step until 7 months. Mom said I came out walking and talking. Both of my sons were walking somewhere around 9 months or so. That's still quite a bit earlier than average, a lot don't walk until they're a year. I remember my oldest rolled over in his crib when he was only three weeks old and I don't think has stopped since.

My daughter took a while to crawl. I can't remember when exactly, which is bad, but I know that it was a while after her friends, and we were thinking that she probably wasn't going to crawl at all. Before she managed it she used to somehow get around by sitting on her bottom, falling over, landing somewhere different and then sitting up again. She could actually travel quite far using this method! When she did crawl she got around very fast, and because of this she didn't seem in any hurry to walk. Her friends were all toddling around, but she could move faster than them, so I can see her point, lol! She first tried to walk at about 13 months, just a few tottery steps and then she would fall over. She obviously didn't feel ready at this point as she then gave up walking for another month or two, and then began walking again, this time much more steadily, at 15 months.

my son is 7mos old now and he can crawl at 5mos...stand on his own now while holding on to railings like his crib ... and can walk while holding his two hands ... his steps are still not that steady but i can see he really wants to walk already. and he can go around on his own thru his walker.

I have six kids. The earliest walker started at 8 months, the latest at a year and a half. As a matter of fact, two didn't start until a year and a half. One just wasn't interested the other was a premie so he took longer to develop strength and balance. He might have even been a little older than a year and a half. The one that started at 8 months still crawled first, but I have heard that not all kids crawl before walking. I personally think that's amazing.

My son did so many things very early. While in the hospital basinette after birth he raised himself up on his elbows, lifted his head and looked around. Not knowing babies I wasn't overly impressed until the nurses said that was very unsual. LOL He crawled at 6 months, used a baby walker about that time, and then started walking at 9 months. But, I know he was early for those things. Wish I could say he took to potty training as quickly. LOL

My daughter was never a crawler. She went right to walking and her first steps by her self was on her 1st birthday. She was walking by holding on to things and navigating her way around a room with aid but those by herself steps just weren't coming. To help you baby with walking and leg strengthening, why don't you put her in a saucer, jolly jumper and a walker. These things helps them stand on their legs and use the muscles for jumping, spinning and pushing. Don't worry, 10 months is still quite young to be walking.

My son started crawling at 5 1/2 months. We had a toy that was like a lil cowboy on a horse and it has wheels and a string to pull it with so I put the toy in front of him and I knew he really wanted it and I started slowly pulling it away and he just got up on his hands and knees and crawled a little bit towards it then fell back to his stomach. So I kept doing it until he finally started crawling. Then I guess he was about 9 months when he started walking. He would always pull himself up on the couch and then that day he pulled himself up and let go and took a couple steps. I worked with him everyday until he got walking down pact. But if your daughter is off balance or legs arent strong enough work with. Start out holding both her hands and letting her walk holding onto your hands and then once her legs get a little stronger then just hold on to one hand and then progress through like that. Then just barely hold onto her hands where she can walk by herself but your there if she gets off balanced. Thats how I helped my son to walk.

my daughter both crawled around 8 months and then walked around 12 months. i wasn't sure youngest daughter was going to walk that soon because she spent 9 months of her life in a brace. but as soon as that thing came off she was up and going. my son crawled early so i thought he was going to walk earlier. he crawled around 6 or 7 months. he started taking steps at around 11 months. he'll be a year old on monday. he is taking alot of steps and can cross a room when he wants to but he is still unsteady. he'll take a few steps then have to stop to center himself, then he'll go farther.

My son crawled at 6 months old and was walking by 9 months old. My daughter started to crawl at 5 months old and was walking by 8 months old. They were early birds when it came to those things. I know several kids that did not walk until they were over a year old.

i can only remember my youngest son who is now a year old and three months. he started to crawl at eigth and his birthday, he was already walking on his own. i guess with the 3 kids, he was the one that almost late with crawling and walking. give your baby a regular massage on her legs to help her legs stronger when she starts to walk. KEEP SMILING = NEIL

My son is 10 years old now and I don't remember when he crawled, but, I'll never forget when he first walked because he was LATE - 16 months! My mother says I was the same way though, a very late walker and she feared I'd never walk. But of course I did, and now my son is a base-stealing Little Leaguer. :)

My daughter never crawled, she never even attempted it. she did this funny little monkey scoot on her but. She started walking right around her first birthday. I would buy one of those little walker things that she can push around. A few days helping her with that she was up and ready to go.
