Don't you hate it when Vista shuts down your PC

to install updates? You are in the middle of something and PING! it's gone. Is there any way for a computer unfriendly know-nothing like me to prevent this from happening or at least get some warning? Any advice on this subject wouold be really appreciated

hmmm you must be ding something wrong! My system doesnt shut down with out a warning or saying that an update is complete and needs to be rebooted to apply the update. this is the way it worked when I had XP and works the same with my Vista Machine.

LOL it is annoying, mine does it all the time, but you should be able to set it up to tell you that it is going to do it. Mine gives me a four minute warning that I can change if I want too. I think you go into the control panel and look through systems and maintenance.

That is the most annoying thing in the whole wide world. I did not have Windows Vista when you orignally posted this discussion, but about a month later my XP laptop crapped out, and I had to buy a new laptop, with no choice but to upgrade to Vista. YIKES!!! I odn't mind the system in general, but oh how I get pi$$ed off when I'm in the middle of something and it shuts down. Grrrr....

Usually Windows will give a 5-minute warning before it re-boots. The annoying thing is early Wednesday mornings after the Tuesday update process. This usually happens around three a.m. American Eastern time when everybody is asleep. If you had a long process or download in progress, you're up the creek.
