For me it would have to be the starfruit. Boy was that a weird experience. Its a unique looking yellow fruit that is in the shape of a star. I found it to be sweet enough, but it didn't really taste like anything and was bland. I wonder now if there is a fancy way to prepare it that you might only find at some fancy place in New York. Sounds about right. They probably have a starfruit salad or ice cream or something.

THey will put it in tropical drinks and things like that. I'm not sure if I have tried any really exotic fruits. I've probably tasted starfruit before. I have had papaya and kiwi, neither of which are too unusual. I think pomegrante may have been the strangest fruit I've eaten. They have unusual fruit at Bloom grocery probably like uglifruit and such, but I have never bouught it.

I had a Charmoya one time. It was wonderful. It tasted like pineapple sherbet. When I was in college there was a plant near the dorms and it was a treat to find fruit on it. I have seen them in Safeway but they are really expensive. I have had but do not like starfruit. My kids love it.

Un fortunately it well not grow in this area. It will not take frost and we have freezing nights in the winter. If I had a greenhouse I would plant one but I can not afford that now.

I love starfruits, we can get them easily here in my country. I've tasted durian, rambutan, langsat, mangosteens and many other tropical fruits. You can try and blend starfruits, then strain it to get the juice and mix with honey and crushed ice. It's very refreshing on a hot summer day! The most unusual fruit I've tried would be dragon fruit. There are two types, one has magenta colored flesh and the other is white. I didn't want to try the magenta coloured ones because of the strong colour. It looks like it has artificial coloring! Lol!! Surprisingly, it tastes great! I love dragon fruit now. :):)

Dragon fruits are juicy and sweet! I was surprised that I like the magenta ones because I've tasted the white ones and they are not as sweet. Though they have lots of tiny seeds, I think it's okay to swallow them as they won't "grow" in your stomach like a lot of us thought apples would when we were kids. :)

I love Starfruit. That was the weirdest fruit for me. My mom's friend had made a fruit salad and put those in there. They are just a pain to peel the skin off of cause of their shape. I thought they were just right but I have had ones that weren't that great.

I usually like eating kiwi fruit, especially for breakfast and my favourite are those from New Zealand. This morning my husband went to the corner shop and bought a different coloured one, definitely not green like the others, but yellow. I tried it and the taste was absolutely delicious! In a way it reminded me of a tropical fruit or a peach, even though I could not really specify which! What a delicious flavour!

I'd say dragonfruit. It looks very attractive, with the light scarlet colour, and the scale-like skin. The inside looks good too - white with little dots (seeds?). But I didn't like it - I don't fancy fruits with tiny seeds that I've to either swallow or spit out!

I am with you on that one. Although it is mostly because to me, it gets in the way of eating the fruit. Then again, maybe God put seeds in fruit to keep us from eating too fast back in the hunting and gathering days.

Yeah I found starfruit to be pretty bland myself, not much taste. For me, the most unusual fruit I have tried was probably the durian. It smells like a gas leak or something, and it tastes pretty weird. I wouldn't go so far as to dismiss it as being terrible, but it's not really that nice either. Lots of Asians I know really enjoy it and almost everyone I've met from Malaysia loves it, but it's not my kind of fruit.

I know what you are saying about the whole eating too much of certain fruits. I do that a lot. Sour strawberries? Sometimes you get them like that, but the bigger and darker they are, without being mushy, that is the time to pick them and they are sweet.

I'm guy who happens to be somewhat of a foodie, and I have often tried many, many things including starfruit, which I like as a component to a champagne sorbet!:) The most unusual fruit that I ever attempted to eat was Durian Fruit, which I'll never try again! LOL!:) http://www.apsense.com/article/113211.html I really enjoy new things as far as foods are concerned, and it occurs to me that many fruits and vegetables that USA folks consider "normal" are also considered strange by many other cultures... I hope that you get a laugh out of my article about Durian fruit, and that you will also hear from the Mylot community about their food experiences, too!:)

Oh, starfruit is a local fruit in my country. There are sour starfruits and like the first comment said, we use it to make the soup of 'sinigang' sour. Sinigang is a popular dish that is commonly made sour with tamarind and kamias. It can have pork, shrimp and other meat. It is bland even when it is ripe. I don't know about ice cream star fruit but some provinces has special delicacies made with starfruit.
