or you just acquired it as a skill? I am talking about a person's talent to sing or dance. There are people who really knows how to sing since they learned to recognized a tune and to dance even when there is no music. I love to dance and my talent in dancing is inborn. I was told by my mother that whenever I hear a lively music, my butt would just follow the beat and just do some left and right movement in a tune. I like to sing too but I guess songs doesn't like me. But because of this aspiration and/or desire to sing, I learnt how to sing. I call this an acquired skill. I practice everyday. I just practice by myself. And I have proven to myself that I can anything that I want to. What about you? Do you have any talent that is inborn or acquired? tell us something about it. Take care

I think that a talent for singing or for dancing is something that you are born with -- just as I think that some people are born with more athletic ability than others or with the ability to assimilate information more quickly. However, I think that by studying and taking lessons, anyone can improve their ability to sing and to dance. However, if you don't have the inborn talent, then you will never sing as well or dance as well as someone who has the inborn talent and who has also been trained -- or at least it will not come as quickly to you. Please note that by "as well" I mean in terms of pure proficiency by someone who is able to accurately measure the singing or dancing. I am qualifying my statement because I think that those of us watching a dance troupe perform would probably not be able to pick out those dancers who have natural ability and are trained versus those who don't have as much natural ability and are trained. However, if we were experts in dance and had to work with those people on choreography, etc., I think that we would be able to discern the difference in terms of which dancer could acquire the information effortlessly versus those who really have to struggle to learn the performance.

While I've always been a good dancer, I've always wished I could sing. I've tried. I've prcticed. I sing in the shower and in the car every day. But I still can't carry a tune!

I think people can be taught to do just about anything, but there's a level that you must have the natural gift to be able to achieve. I'm a pretty average person with lots of acquired skills, myself, but I love to see those who are extremely talented really go somewhere with their gifts.
