Hi, I am from India and in India we eat everything with hands. There are some people in the urban areas that are too westernized and don't eat with hands. They think that eating with spoon, forks is clean and decent and cultured. While doing this they forget their own culture. Eating with hands is also clean. Your hands need to be clean for that :) I eat with hands. Even when I go to restaurants, three star, five star hotels I eat with hands. If I had to go to a seven star hotel, there also I will eat rice with hands. Your fingers should touch the food you eat. That is good for your health. Ayurveda has many principles on why one should eat with hands. Thanks!

I generally use a fork or spoon but when I am alone in the kitchen, I have eaten rice with my hand in there! I love rice in almost any way its cooked and sometimes I like it when it does that thing where it clumps in the recipe and I like to eat that clump when I pick it up with my fingers. I try not to let anyone see me doing it though cuz yes, they will think I am even weirder!

I grew up using my hand to eat rice, but I do know that that's a bit strange for most of the western world. I actually eat much tidier with my hands than I do with silverware!

Hello m_rdzy, I am from the Philippines and I eat with my hands. When we were kids we usually eat with our hands. We have our lunch packed banana leaves and during lunch break we eat with our hands using the banana leaves as plate and wrapper. Life was so simple then and meal is enjoy with your hands. I still think in the provinces here in our country they still eat with their hands. In urban places, fork and spoon are usually used. My kids now eat with fork and spoon. I am the only one who eat with my hand. It's not un-sanitary as long as you wash your hands and keep your fingernails short. A long fingernail is breading ground for bacteria so it's better to keep them short so you can easily clean them. Have a nice day.

well, i'm asian as well and yes i do eat with my hands. i have a lot of friends from the other parts of the world and they always seem to find this a peculiar eating habit. however, once they've got the hang of it, they enjoy it so much that they said that when they're back home in their own country they still do it sometimes. i mean in western countries it is uncommon to have rice as a meal. much more uncommon to see a westerner eating rice with his/her bare hands. lol!!!
