First let me say this... I am glad other contries are finding ways at feeding their loved ones. But at what cost to me.
To date I have lost two decent jobs to outsourcing. Although my story may be different then most.
Let me explain...
1st time I was hit: (As a Technical Support / Customer Service Supervisor)
I was working for Sony and they wanted to open what they were calling at the time "pilot" locations for additional call center / technical support employees.
These offices were slated for England, India, and later China. My task was to create a training package for the offices to follow to assist in making the pilot program more of a success.
Guess what? the "pilot" offices were working out better and faster then expected. About 2 months into this experiment, roughly 70 people were individually called into the conference room. We were greeted with a pep talk on finding employment in other locations in the surrounding areas.
About a week or two later I was given my walking papers, a severence package and a hand shake for my years of service.
2nd time I was hit: (As a Web Developer / Project Manager)
During this time, I worked for a small design company. I learned quite a bit about international business ethics. Web development was good, in fact we had many ongoing projects to complete. The owner was not a US citizen, but man did he know how to run a business in America.
He was asked why not become a citizen, his response was "Why should I, when I can have a work VISA and stay here forever?". I found this to be a sound opinion if you can get away with it.
At any rate, I explained to them why I left Sony and I was told that there was no way that would happen to me there. Good feeling right, finally another job I liked and no chance of outsourcing.
I was wrong, after some time the company wanted to branch out internationally to boost production. Instantly I was nervous, here we go again. But I was assured that I was safe.
The thought of being safe was confirmed as corrections were needed for the work that was done. Don't get me wrong, the work was awesome, but more than not needed major fixes.
After some months, I was called in the main office. I was told that the company could no longer afford my salary and the India office that I had been working so closely to and training would take over. Again I was giving a hand shake, and extra money for having to leave. This time I was also given a sound piece of advice for the holidays...
"...take care, enjoy the family, most important thing in the world ! ! !..."
I didn't know how to respond with Christmas a few weeks away. I remained respectful and simply replied with a thanks and same to you type of response.
So as you can see, it affected me very much, very harsh.
Have you been hit as I have?

Outsourcing has become a major problem in this country. It seems politicians are making it easier for businesses to outsource, while our unemployment rates continue to climb. To rub it in, we have some politicians telling us that our economy is fine and that businesses are doing great. Yeah great if you live in India. If you live here, not so much if you're trying to find a job. My family has been affected by outsourcing more than once, so to hear how businesses are booming due to outsourcins while my family struggles doesn't sit well with me. If politicians want to improve this country and the economy, the first thing they need to do is get rid of outsourcing, or make it more expensive to outsource.

As we all know, this economy is not okay.
The problem is the people that make the decisions can't see this.
