Plants that don't need direct sunlight

Do you know of any plant that doesn't need too much sunlight? I know it for a fact that plants need sunlight to survive, but I also know that some plants prefer to be kept under some shade in order to grow healthily, or bloom. I was wondering if anyone knows any plant that is like that? It is because we have a plantbox inside our lobby and most of the plants there doesn't receive direct sunlight (but they still receive some sunlight), so they die within a month. I was thinking of replacing those dead plants, and the others that are about to die. Any suggestions?

Philodendrons do well with indirect light. I've had one for 15 years that has never been in the direct sunlight. It was getting so big that I cut it back a lot earlier this year.

Thanks. I'll try to find if we have philodendrons here in our city.

You can plant Gloxinias, tuberous begonias and African violets. These do not need direct sunlight and they thrive well in the shade. Not indoors but outside without direct sunlight. They look very colorful. You get plenty of flowers.
