Ok, me, the "I have to know the answer" person, did find interesting info on the flower on proflowers.com for those interested. I always assumed it was a valentine's day thing. Needed an expensive red flower to give/be given?

I dont know. for me flovers menas love. It doesnt matter what colour they have. Only matters is thier smell. If they smell good thaen i will give it to my girlfriend. if you give any thing with heart full of love then it will become a love simple in your relatinship.

I think because red represents passion. It gets the blood rushing and is vibrant. I think all flowers are a symbol of love if your husband sends you a huge bouquet to work so that everyone can aw over them. LOL!

I think, the reason may be the red rose are the most common. You can express your love at a lower price, why not? Plus red is traditionally the color of love and happiness. BUT, why rose but not other kind of fllowers?
