Yes, it is true. Even though Obama has put together a transition team for the Presidency, McCain is gaining ground and chipping away at Obama's lead. This race is not over by a long shot. Read more about McCain's progress here. http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-challenges25-2008jul25,0,1054470.story I say McCain is not probably further behind Obama than the first Bush was behind Dukakis at Bush's worst in that race. Dukakis still lost, just like Obama still could. Dukakis lost primarily because Americans learned just how liberal Dukakis really was. Obama is even more liberal. Victory for McCain? What do you say?

the sad part of this election is that is truly shows how uneducated the general public is on politics, obama is a great public speaker but all he really says is "change" and new beginings but none of his platforms really make sense. hes really running on buzz words and it works right now bc of the mess the US is in right now and people are looking for hope, i mean hitler was a great public speaker too! if people actaully took the time to read political paltforms on both candidates they would probably be shocked at the things obama really wants to do, its almost mind bottling. its very annoying with the liberal media and the the celebs in hollywood trying to be trendy and support obama. if anyone were to study political thoery they would find that the democratic party is not what the media makes it look like, its very different and people who have a brain would realize that the views most democrats have are not whats best for the country and history shows that since conservative have been in power for the majority of the united state's history. it would honestly be a shame if obama wins the election this comming november because he can really screw a lot of things up with his lack of experience and utter disregard for an actual working economy and hurting people for other peoples problems like taxing rich people more for other people's mistakes in the loan market. also his veiws on taxing high earning corporatons greater would cripple our economy not help it. i have no idea where he comes from on a lot of the things he preaches about. i geuss in the end if he were to win we'll be the ones who said "i told you so" in four years

Obama really does not understand practical mathematics and that is a big part of his problem. He has no clue as to the ramifications of his policies because he does not seem to possess higher order math ability. His statement that inflating tires could make up the shortfall this country has concerning crude oil amply demonstrated this.

Remember back in 1976 at this time Carter had a 23 point lead over Ford. By the time November came around Ford lost by a half of a point. Just as Ford was the logical vote so to is McCain. Carter was the emotional vote so to is Obama. Emotions wear out over time and logic will stand the test of time. With Obama barely holding onto a lead, McCain could win big. The only states I see Obama winning is California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Delaware, New York, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine. So that is 12 states, now I am not sure what that comes to in electoral votes but McCain wins big time.

I do remember the 1976 election quite well. Your comparison is a good one. Compare this election also to the first George Bush running against Dukakis. Dukakis was leading by something like 12% at one time. Still, George Bush won. McCain is showing signs of turning this around.

The race is not over yet. Many uncalled changes and surprises may still occur. Obama and MCcain will be tried on judgement day, that is the election day.

Yes, this is going to be a close race unless one or the other makes a huge mistake.
