How Do You Take Care of your Hair?

Do You Go To Salons To Have It Maintained? Or You Just Do It Yourself, at Home? I used to go to hair salons to have it trimmed, dyed, and for hair spa. I have lots of grey hair and I look much older if I dont have it colored every 3 months. Of course, they have to put hair spa to make it shinier and softer. But then, practicality steps in and with very high costs of living nowadays, i had to do it all by myself. I'd rather do it than spend a lot for my hair, when i can do it at home, at a cheaper price. it may not be as good as when it's done by a professional, but it will do. Anyway, I don't work outside of the house and seldom go out. The trimming, is another thing. I have it done in the salon. I really can't do it, much harder when you have to cut your own hair. I wouldn't wanna mess with it.. So, aside from your daily hair routine, what sort of hair maintenance do you do?

I don't take you much care of my hair, don't get me wrong I wash it and all, I just don't go to salons and stuff. I just like to cut it short, I mostly cut it at home with my mom's hair machine like an inch short or something..

I am low maintenance. i just wash and wear my hair. My mom keeps it trimmed for me. I can't afford salons. I also buy antifrizz serums and mouse for my hair cause it is naturally curly and goes nutso some days.

I have a friend who used to be in the beauty and hair business and he gives me a trim on occasion. He also dyes my hair when it needs some cover up. I'm lucky that my hair doesn't need anything major so far. A couple gray or silver hairs here and there, but that's vitamin B deficiency since the baby was born. I don't mind. It's my badge of motherhood. And hair dye easily covers that up!

oh boy!! So that's why I have so many now? What more if I have another baby? Guess, I have to start taking vitamin B or else all my natural hair will turn to gray...thanks, BQ

I go to the hairdressers about two or three times a year to have my hair cut when the split ends start to get bad as no one at home can cut hair properly. On a regular basis I maintain my hair at home, I use shampoo and conditioner that helps nutrient my hair and prevent damage by hair straighteners and hair dryers. I also use heat protection spray for the same reason as I regularly use heated products.

After every 6 months or after 1 year I would go to the salon for hair treatment. I say 6 months to 1 year because that's the period it usually takes for cellophane or hair straightening treatment I did to last. I cannot even trim my own hair. I just leave it to the experts at the salon to do it. I only follow what they tell me after the treament - don't go to the beach yet, wash always with shampoo and conditioner, etc.

Good that the treatment that they apply lasts that long! Here, the salons would even tell you that the cellophane would only last for 2 or 3 months, then you have to get to pay for another one..way too expensive here...thanks...

Once upon a time that was years back when I was in college i remember how everyone used to rave about my hair.I had lovely long black hair ,very straight and silky.I used to take a lot of care.I would massage my scalp with warm oil apply egg white and leave it before shampooing it.I would condition it with black tea.I would make a paste of hibiscus leaves and use this hair pack.It used to be so good. All that has gone now i go to the salon to get my hair cut, I just made it short for convenience sake.my hair has dropped a lot.I do the coloring myself once in say 6 months.I just brush my hair well everyday and that's it. No extra care like I used to do earlier.

Why did you cut your hair, if i may ask? I sensed that you loved it so much and seemed so proud of it....You can still be convenient even with a long hair...

I was the one to always go to the salon and have them cut and dye it for me for I knew not a thing on this kind of thing to be able to do it myself and was to scared to that I would mess it up and not be able to fix it. I had to stop going for it got to be to expensive. I one day had a friend come over and she did it for me then said "I want to to watch how I do this and your goin to do it the next time I come over with my super vision". A few weeks went by and sure enough she had to come back and now it was my turn to do it myself with her watching. I had remembered how she did the coloring for it was done in the bathroom infront of my big mirror I have. I was scared as I put the dye all in and let it set. I combed it through dragging the rest of the color down through and applied the rest of the color that was in the bottle and waited longer. It came time to wash it out and apply the conditioner I did just that waited and washed that out. She then handed me the scissors and said I want you to flip your head upside down so all your hair falls forward. I did just that she then went on to say I want you to grab onto your hair pulling your hair all the way down to the end and cut the end of it and make sure it's even when you do this. I did just that and cut it to the shortness I wanted it she had me do the same for my bangs. I let it dry and had a look I was amazed on how good I had done. She then told me that I could do this on my own from now on now that I had shown her I was capeable of doing it. So now I do it with confidence at home and it's alot cheaper.

I trim my bangs myself, the rest I'm letting grow so it only gets trimmed about once a year to get rid of split ends. I color my hair myself - have for years. I'm a blonde but do have some grey that I'm trying to cover. Funny, my grandmother always told me blonds never get grey hair. LOL

at least your grey hair will be streaks or highlights on your blondie..Mine is dark brown, so when grey hair appears, it really shows..But sometimes, i let it stay as highlights...thanks, tess...

I don't go to the salon very often. Unless its a special occasion. I don't trim my hair as often as I should due to the fact that I am trying to grown it. Every time I go to the salon they cut more that I would like them to and then I leave very disappointed. I don't color my hair . I just like to get it blow dried when I go to the salon. Also these days thne salons are so expensive. For a simple trip they charge an arm and a leg. So I kind of think twice before I go.

I'm very lucky because I have the kind of hair I can trim myself. I hardly have any grey, and I blonde streak it myself too. Every now and then I have it done professionally, but to be honest, I think it looks better when I do it myself! I also cut my daughter's hair, but I wouldn't touch my husband's. Some hair is easy to trim, but his would look awful if it wasn't done professionally.

good for you..me, i really have a hard time dyeing my own. Sometimes, there will still be grey hair left at the back and some on the sides..But, then streaks are "in" here, so i might as well be "in" also..thanks..

I have an excellant hair consultant Mr. Takagawasan in Tokyo. He takes care of my hair more than I do twice in every month. Really I am not getting much time to dye my hair. I want to do it myself, but some how getting postponed. Yesterday one ramyashreek reminded me about this through a discussion here in myLot. (One personal suggestion: consider change your avatar photo - it really distracts people. If it is your real face make it full. the eyes and lips combination is not at all good to attract people with the size of the photo.)

Are you the one distracted with my avatar? What do you mean by "not at all good to attract people"?

I haven't gone to saloon for hair trimming,it's quite expensive there.I have my hair cut to whatever style i want through a friend who knows how to snap my hair here and around.Aside from the daily routine of shampooing....every other day i use conditioner. If i have so much time pampering my hair, i do twice a week of of either hot oil or conditioning with the use of treatment wax.I have not tried the relax and rebonding thing as i can see some who had done it and it don't look good.

I too used to go to the salon all the time to have it colored, cut etc. Now I color it myself. I haven't gone for a cut in a long time. I have been doing that myself. Don't ask! I let it grow in and have been trimming it myself. My friends told me to let it grow. What was I thinking. I have very curly, thin fine hair and frizzy. I can't do anything with it. I will be going to get it cut as soon as I can decide what I want to do with it again. Since it's summer I wear it up so for now I just do that.

I do the trimmings myself because i dont wanna pay so much just to have it trimmed one inch..it must be very hard for you to maintain your hair..i have a friend who has a frizzy hair to and she would pay thousands just to have it straightened...thanks, Opal..
