What are the stars for?

Being a complete noobee, I have been reading through various discussions and have noticed stars next to some participants names, also heard mention of red stars, can someone enlighten me please?

This is your reputation on mylot based on how your discussions and responses are rated by other users with the + or - that you will see on the right hand side of the screen. It really doesn't mean much...you don't get extra earnings for having a high number and your number can go up and down depending on who you've irritated recently.
