Okay, my computer has been randomly freezing these two past days, no matter what im doing. One time i was just posting on mylot, the other time i was playing a game... and it even froze when i shut down! I was gob-smacked. I mean, it just froze on the 'Windows is shutting down' screen. I mean what the hell!?!
So i run a virus scan (Norton Anti-Virus), and it reported back that i have a low risk tracking cookie, so i deleted it... and done and dusted.
I occasionally get these tracking cookies... but nothing really comes of them, yet my computer froze again... so it's not due to that.
Anything you can suggest i do? To find out WHY this is happening? I find i occasionally- (every few months) have a problem similar to this or something... but i never find out HOW it's resolved... So what do you suggest?

I have had the same problem in the past. In my case my system would not only lock up periodically it would actually shut off.
It turned out to be dust. I opened my computer to find everything covered in dust which didn't allow it to cool off enough and on those days that were hot it would build up heat and either freeze or shut off.
I took my computer outside, took my vacuum cleaner and hooked it up to blow instead of suck and blew all the dust out of it. It has been working great since and every few months I take it outside and blow the crap out of it.
I made sure not to touch anything inside my computer with the vacuum hose.

Another thing I was thinking about that used to cause me problems with lockups or freezing was static electricity. I could take my hands off the keyboard, turn in my chair and put my hands back on the keyboard again and BAM it would lock.
I solved this problem with small static pad that I would touch when I sat down and that problem was solved.
That was about 10 years ago or more so this may not even be an issue with newer computers.

Try doing a complete maintenance on your computer...check disk, clean disk and defrag. Also empty your internet history and cookies. Have you used up a lot of your hard drive? My personal preference is not to use more than half of my hard drive, so uninstall any old programs that you no longer use and get rid of old files.
