Driving home from a shopping trip today we saw dozens of cars parked up in the verge. Suddenly, an enormous roaring sound shattered out air conditioned tranquility and we were treated to a display by the Royal Air Force's Red Arrows jet aircraft display team. I am not one that is given to great feelings of national pride. But for some reason I suddenly felt very moved and proud of my country. What have you seen recently that made you proud of your nation?

hi pikefishey Iam trying hard to remember a name but its
a senior citizen moment for sure. oh now I remember Hells
angels was a flying team that gave demonstrations of
jut how good they were all over the United States.
every summer they would come to our Area and perform
at our now defunt marine base. I always felt so much
national pride on seeing all their varous stunts and they were
so very very good. But alas the last time they flew I missed
seeing them but my son saw the whole grisly thing. ThisItalian guy was flying low and just too low, and in the midst of his stunt when he came back for the low flying part he just simply got to low and wham he was going like a bat out of hell and his plane just simply disentegrated right there on the runway in front of thousands of spectators, burning fuselage and burning gasoline hit a few people who had gottem over the ropes that held people back. That was the last time that they peformed there.

I have watched the Red Arrows displays so many times over the Years in the Forces and I love them each time, they do move you they are awesome and wonderful
The last time I saw them display was 15 years ago just before we left RAF Coltishall ( Ex Husband was in the Army and attached to Raf) and it brought tears to my eyes as I knew it would be the last time I would see them, as I was moving into my own House and into Civy Street
I hope I get the Chance to see them again one Day

It's exactly that feeling of despair about our country that makes me feel that things like the Red Arrows are worthwhile Littleowl. If the Government had half a brain between them they'd ensure that we saw more of these things and work hard to unite the nation. Instead they prattle on about saving public money spending twice as much in telling us about it!

Oh you lucky thing, I love the red arrows, one year I will get to an air show. I am like you, not a stirring of national pride but you know where I live every so often we see the jets storm over. Or we see a chinook going low over the hills and I get such a feeling of love for it. I absolutely love chinooks, jets and hercules I used to see those when I went to my Nans in Swindon. Love them.

Yes I think Cosford do still do them, because every year I see it on the news and every year I say "Oh I wish I had known, I would love to go"
Thanx for the pic Xx

On Friday afternoon the Red Arrows were perfoming over Portsmouth for the Meet the Navy weekend. I was watching from my window in Southsea and it went on for ages.
One plane had a pink trail and it made a perfect pink heart shape in the sky, the others left trails of red, white and blue.
I have seen them at a distance before but never so close. One of the planes actually flew right over my roof.
Yesterday I walked to the mouth of Portsmouth Harbour and there was an air display with a single plane looping and rolling in the sky. I'm hoping there may be some more air displays later today.

Wow that must have been an amazing site to see. We haven't seen nothing around like that where I live. But I surely owuld have. I haven't seen nothing to make me proud at this time. Unless it is people pulling together at a time like this when it is needed and comforting those who need it and supporting our troops and the other troops that are helping.. Other then that nothing.

The military is a very potent symbol of our nations and the freedoms that we enjoy. The US does national unity better than many other countries. We aren't too good at it anymore. Although occasionally we get it right. The Queen's Diamond Jubilee was a good example of that.

I love the Red Arrows. I haven't seen much to be proud of recently but they are a real credit to the training provided by the air force here.

I'm wracking my brains on this one and honestly can't come up with a single thing. Not to say that there haven't been moments of great pride when I've heard a wonderful rendition of the National Anthem during a ball game or watched a video on YouTube about our soldiers overseas, but generally speaking its not something I can say I've mean moved to tears over in recent months.

How brilliant,im naturally a patriotic person so its easy for me to feel overcome with pride,Armistice day always gets me going ,all those poppies and the last post,it sends tingles up and down your spine,I was quite touched at the visit recently, the visit made by Nelson Mandela,it was heartwarming,to think he spent all of that time in solitary confinement.so sad.But im a great air fan,and I much love the sptifires and the older planes being in the air, when we were away in Sherringham once we went to an old aircraft museum,I cannot remember where it was but it was not too far from Sherringham and its a marvellous museum, they have the grounds full of old planes, and inside there are old tanks and war vehicles, and some brilliant displays of was memorabilia. It was fascinating. But to return to the question,im sorry ive waivered somewhat, but there are many things that can make me feel so proud, and then something will happen on the news and all the feelings turn to anger.

Many years ago Ella I had a girlfriend who lived close to Greenham Common. One summer we were sunbathing when the air literally went dark and the Battle of Britain flight escorting a Lancaster flew over. When I was young I always wanted to be a Lancaster pilot. I nearly wet myself with excitement. Fantastic, really soul stirring stuff. Only in Britain.
