Today I set out to do some long put off projects around the house. I started out by staining 2 bookcases. They came out great! Then I spray painted an old white table lamp brown. I enjoy taking on projects like these. How about you? Can you give me some examples or some tips?

It gives you a lovely feeling when you've achieved something nice for your home, Opal - and I'm sure you feel really pleased and proud of your bookcases! We are in the process of doing a lot of little maintenance jobs around our 30-year-old home, as we'd like to sell it within the next year and retire somewhere else. It's pleasing to fix things and make them fresh and new again.

Yes that is so true. I really love to do this sort of thing. I always have. I am in the process of re-doing a few pieces of furniture that I have. I find it fun making things look new and different.

We haven't had much time for those much-needed projects this summer. I'm hoping this weekend that we can put the finish on our bay window - it was installed a year ago!

Well done Opal, I used to do this type of thing all the time but now time seems to be so limited. I cut down the legs of a high wooden bar stool to make into a childs seat and rubbed down and painted the same colour as their room and they had it next to the bed and used as a side table for their lamps and reading book. I borrowed a jig saw and cut out a template of a dolphin from wood and painted it and put up on the wall in one of my daiughters bedrooms, I didn't have a parcel shelf in my car so to make any loads in the boot safe I picked up from the tip an old dog guard and cable tied it in, it works well. Have no tips to give except experiement and keep at it. LOL. Ellie :D

Well ellie, you are quite the little carpenter-a jigsaw! You have far surpassed me! I'm extremely impressed!

My sister brought new curtains for our window last week. We are both busy that we aren't able to do anything about it. But this coming weekend we plan to do some curtain changing in our house.

oh yes. yesterday i watched that guy that decorates on clean house. he was on Oprah. i dont know if you get it there. no wait, your here in usa, right? anyway, he said that furniture covers and paint are the ways to change your homes looks from what you are tired of. so you got a good start. by now you probably got it all done
