I am from the south and lemme tell ya, there is nothing like a good racoon. Where I am now I can't get them. Instead I get to watch them run across the road, knock over trash cans, and smile at me because they know I can't touch them. I think one winked at me the other night, they know they are safe here.

I live in the south these day but I have been raccoon hunting when I lived back in Nebraska. A cousin became interested in Raccoon hunting and raising the dogs. I went out with them once. We were stumbling around in the dark trying to keep up with the dogs, crossing ditches with water in it and getting cold. This cousin did give us some raccoon meat but I didn't care much for it. I wouldn't have missed the hunt for the world but it is not something I would do a second time.

We did it the easy way, we set traps near the melon patch. They always tried to run off with the melons.

raccoon - Can not imagine eating
OMG, I can not imagine eating raccoon. You say you are from the south, where did you get raccoon there, in the grocery store. I have heard of people eating squirrel and rabbit, but never raccoon. What does it taste like, and how do you cook it. Excuse me for the silly questions, but this something new to me and I am inerested. Thank you and God bless

I ate those as well. You can add snapping turtle to that too. Racoon has a slightly stringy, spicy taste to it. A special treat for the holidays. Everytime I go home, they try to get me one, but nowadays, not to many hunt them.

I have never heard of anyone eating racoon before. Where in the South did you live? When I lived back in Michigan they would get in our trash all the time. They are SMART too! I think they are pretty cute animals too and they are probably definitely smiling at you too because they know you can't lay a hand on them!

I am from the carolina's. In fact I kept one racoon in a cage as a pet. Alas the time came when country rules had to apply. Eat or be eaten. I was sad sure, but I was told by my late grandpa, not to get attached.
