Online students?

Is anyone else here an online student? I went to Michigan State University for 4 years, lived on campus and earned a degree. Now I am furthering my education with a degree in Forensic Science but I am completing that online as there are not any local schools nearby that offer the degree. Even if there were I wouldn't be able to go to class every week as I work 12 hour night shifts so I sleep during the day. I really like online classes, but you do have to be VERY self-disciplined to do them. You can get behind really easily, luckily I haven't gotten caught up with that yet.

That's very interesting! Yeah, it does seem like it would take more discipline to actually get things done for an online course when there's no teacher forcing you to do x, y, or z. While I don't officially take any courses online, I do listen to a few of the free university lectures posted online (like MIT's OpenCourseware and UC Berkeley's webcasts). Some of those lectures are quite informative, but there are times when I think I could've gone through it faster had I just been given a transcript.

That is what I like about online classes, you can go through sections at your own pace. If you can read through a section in less than an hour and understand it and take your quiz, it beats sitting in a class listening to the teacher lecture for 2-3 hours on the thing you just learned in an hour on your own!

Colorado Technical University Online - logo for Colorado Technical University Online
Hi my friend, I am taking classes online at Colorado Technical University. I am taking courses to get my Associates of Science degree in Medical Billing and Coding. At my age, I didn't want to go to the brick and mortar schools and have to deal with all those "younger" kids. I felt like I would stick out. I passed my first course with an A and the current course I'm taking, Medical Terminolgy I'm sustaining an A average. I really enjoy it because I can do it at my leisure. You are right though, it does take alot of discipline to do your work, especially since I found MyLot. lol My lectures are always archived so I can listen to them at 2 in the morning if I want to. I just have to make sure and get the assignments done on time. What online college do you attend? Happy MyLotting, Char

I go to St. Petersburg College. The offer both online and on campus classes. For the degree I'm taking once I've taken all of my classes I have to go on campus for a week of hands on testing. I finished both my Summer classes and got A's in both, now I just need to figure out what to take in the Fall. Also my employer pays up to $2500 a year for me to futher my education so I'm taking full advantage of that! As long as you get an A you get all your $$ back that you pay for tuition. All that comes out of your pocket is money for books.

I attend school online, I am working towards a degree in health care admininistration after I complete that I want to work for my masters, then I want to apply for and attend a medical school I am trying to make the best grades I can so that I will hopefully be accepted to the school I apply to, I have not chosen a school yet, I am also hoping to find more funding. Funding your education can be very expensive. I think online schools are a great way to work towards getting more education at a faster pace and without having to leave home,.it is a lot easier in my case since transportation is a problem todya.

University of Central Florida - This is a sign for UCF
I'm an online student also. I'm working on my bachelor's degree in Technical Education with a minor in Psychology. I'm currently an online student with the University of Central Florida. Maybe it is just me, but I tend to do well with online classes. I don't ever get behind or bored. I've been taking classes online for a while, but in January I became a completely online student. I have taken five online classes and gotten As in all of them no problem. It becomes easier and easier for me as times go on. This way I can work on my education experience in my career, be a good wife, and a great mother.

I live in Palm Springs and I go to Santa Monica College online. I actually am more disciplined with online courses than with going to an actual campus. I'm going to have to go to my local campus for the rest of my classes, because I need lab classes, and I think I will go right back to online for the rest.

That is great. Well, I think its the trend nowadays considering the advent of the internet plus the busy life that we have. I think it a great opportunity to learn and improve the knowledge to take online courses. I have not taken any yet. But if I find the right opportunity and the right time then I would certainly take one. Best to you and keep up the good work!

In my last year of higscool there were so many courses that i had to take that in order to fit them all in i had to take an online course to make one up. It was really easy or me to fall behind and i finished it by the skin of my teeth. Not onyl did i have all thoseother courses oing on but there was also all the year end festivites to do. I really hated how it consumed all my spare time and there was never realy a moment that i could truly relax. I spent to bulk o my spring break catching up on work; if i hadnt i would not have finished the course. Despite all that hard work i still really liked the fact i took it and it was realy rewarding knowing that i taught myself everything, and though it might not have been the best time for me i really enjoyed working at my own pace.

I am an online student! I really love it. I have enough time to still be able to work and spend time with my family and friends. It does take alot of discipline to get all your work done. As you go along, it gets so much easier though. What ever online college you pick, just remember to make sure it is accredited. There are many colleges that just offer degree training, not an actual accredited degree. Good luck with your studys!

I too have taken a few online classes from my school. Personally I find that these classes are more difficult than regular on-campus classes, not just because it's easy to get behind but also because the ones i have taken seem to be more difficult content-wise. I didn't know that you can earn your bachelor's degree from online classes, how long does it take, approximately? it's only my sophomore year of college and i attend a community college so the classes i have taken so far fulfill mostly my GE's and prerequisites.
