Now to me, this is common sense. You get a new trash can and regardless of what size the bags you have on hand are, you use them because it is wasteful.
When we moved we bought a nice garbage can but instead of the 40 gallon bags it uses 28 gallon oval bags. I had 2 boxes of the 40 gallons, so I am using them up. So once the can is full, I pull the bag and add about another 2 days worth of trash to it. My husband doesn't like the way it looks and either wants to just throw the bag out half empty or buy new garbage bags. I am not doing either.
What would you do, keep using the bags or buy new trash bags?

I agree with you 100%. Why buy new when you dont need to. I use bags that are just slightly to big then when the bag is full I run around the house and find things that are trash and fill the bag. We use the same sized bags for all the cans in the house and just fill them when the can is full. We have an office garbage that we dont out bags in since it is just paper so we can use the to top off the bags too.

I'd keep using the bags. I actually buy trash bags that are bigger than my trashcan. I do the same as you, when the can gets full I pull the bag out and add another day or two worth of trash to it. If it doesn't stink that is.
