Do you make yourself eat a nutritious meal before having dessert?

Or, do you substitute dessert for the meal you should have eaten? Last night, I was so tired, I didn't even feel like preparing dinner for myself. All I wanted to do was crawl into a bowl of fudge brownies and pass out in front of the TV. Times like these, I really miss frozen TV dinners. But instead, I got up and made a small meal. Afterwards, I gave in and had a small bite of brownie. When you're hungry do you automatically go for snack foods or desserts or give your body the food it's craving?

The other day I was not all that hungry for dinner, so I made the kids something for dinner and I had a piece of the blackberry pie I had made earlier in the day for dinner with a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream.

Instead of dinner? Wow! Good for you. Wish I could get away with that. It's not a weight issue for me. More of a blood sugar issue. Still battling the possibility that diabetes might set in.

I just eat what I want, I have such a small appetite that half the time there is no point in making a meal for myself as it will not get eaten. I am a snacker, I will eat when I have to, which is usually when I my stomach shouts really loudly and I know then it is time to eat. I have stopped reaching for choccy snacks now I go for the apples in the fridge instead.

Yep! Me too. Lucky me, apples are my daughter's favorites, so we always have them in the house. Now if I could just get her to eat carrots!

lol I pictured you crawling into a bowl of brownies! You were very smart and I bet you feel better today for it! Sometimes, not often, we will give in and have big crazy sundaes instead of dinner! Then we feel awful the next morning. But we do atleast put in lots of fruit! cherries, strawberries, pineapple, that should count right?

Usually I have the full meals for which my body is craving. In your case, it seems to be that you are more interested in the TV show than the meals. It's ok as long as you like it.

I'm usually very good about preparing meals for my family. On nights when my spouse is home, we all eat the same food. But when he goes to work at night, I get flustered and meal times don't work out so well. But still, I make sure my family eats well! Even if I have to patch things together for myself. Thanks for your response.

I have made it my goal to eat nutritious balanced meals. If you say how I ate when I was in college you would not believe this of me. And the fact that I really do not like fruit makes this even harder to believe. But health issues have taken control of my life and I do not want to get worse off then I am. So I eat healthy now and make sure my family does to. I remember those days of having a whole bag of Oreos for dinner. But I no longer do that. Mostly because I can't. But also because I have taught myself not to.

I always have something dinner like before having dessert. I have to make dinner for my family anyway- so I would not feel right giving my daughter brownies for dinner. That is a no-no in my house. If it's just me-- I might grab some chips and dip or some fruit.

My son and I always eat our meals together, with the exception of breakfast, when my husband is working day shift. Then I sometimes eat with my husband, and don't make my toddler get up that early! Since I'm already cooking, or putting together a sandwich for Elliott, I go ahead and make enough for me, or at least throw together a quick sandwich or salad. We very rarely do tv dinners, because of the high sodium. We do sometimes grill extra chicken, burgers, or whatever, and then freeze them in individual portions. These can be heated up quickly for when I don't feel like cooking. We freeze individual portions of rice, too. SO I can put together a whole meal, and just microwave it. Hot dogs also work for a quick fix, but they are another thing that I avoid too many of because of the sodium.

Well, I just ate a Hershey bar with almonds for breakfast. That should answer your question! lol I don't always eat poorly though. Lately I have taken more of an effort to eat healthy foods. It has taken a lot more cooking but I am eating better.

I can't eat sweets on an empty stomach, they will make me feel bad. So I have to have at least some real food before a desert. You know they do still sell tv dinners. Health Choice makes some pretty good ones, and there is the old stand by of Banquet. Many other brands I'm sure. Some better than others.
