I Recently Turned Down a Job Promotion..

And I am wondering if I am dumb to do that. Recently at work, I was offered a post to be the head of the department which I am currently at. If I were to take over that post, I would be more free as there isn't any paperwork that had to be done, and basically my job scope would be to conduct trainings once per month. The plus point is that my salary would be tripled! However, I turned it down as I have a phobia of public speaking and this position requires me to stand in front of 200+ people once every month and talk for at least an hour. Till now, I am still wondering, was I really that dumb to turn down the job promotion? Because as of now, even though I had not accepted the offer, I have to still do the training as my current department head had pushed off the responsibility to me, saying that at executive level, this is also part of my job scope to conduct training. Thus, I had not escaped this even though I turned down the offer of a promotion. Am I dumb or what? Is there anybody else who has the same experiences as me?

Personally, I would have taken the promotion and taken classes on public speaking to help over come my fear. However, if you don't want to stay with that company, I would not be worried about not taking the promotion. Not every position in a company is meant for the people who work there.

Haha, I have no plans to stay on with the company definately. Once I had achieved the maximum potential with this company, I would move on. It would had looked good on my resume though. Sigh~
