My daughter will be starting kindergarten this year. And we have gone and gotten her the schools "voluntary uniforms". (Its a whole other post folks.)The shirts have to be white or light blue. WHITE OR LIGHT BLUE?? In my opinion, these won't last long. THey finger paint, color. They play outside. Mess with glue etc. Could your 5 year old keep a white shirt decent for long? Geez.

When you meet the teacher ask her where to get smocks so that they can keep their clothing clean.

Parents have to provide an old shirt for the smock. But even that is no guarantee.
I better invest in alot of stain remover.

Well, you make me chuckle. You are right. White and light colors would be a disaster for kids. But, then again, a sort of camouflage pattern would probably last best but isn't commonly produced. Even dark colors, you see, stain if light things are spilled on them. So, if you need a camouflage pattern to hide stains, you wouldn't find many mass produced so it would be tricky to require them as the school uniform.
I wonder if the plaid pattern of some outfits hides or exaggerates stains? Hrm.

If I remember about kindergarten the school usually has smocks. I mean that seems only reasonable. The shirts are when they are in classroom listening to the teacher reading stories or telling them their ABCS. It would be ridiculous for the teacher to allow them to play with mud, plasticine, and finger paint in their good clothes, would it not? And if they do not have aprons or smocks, then the teacher will send a note to the parents that the children will be painting and for them to supply a smock or cover all.

Any 5 year old I've ever had couldn't keep a white shirt clean long enough to get it home from the store! I think nave blue, maroon, and black would be a bit more appropriate for that age level. What color pants do they have to wear?

My advice ersmommy would be to buy plenty of white shirts because unless they will have their own little smocks in school, your daughter will be getting her pretty little white blouses dirty.

LOL, no child on earth can keep a light colored shirt very clean for very long. Hopefully they were cheap so you can replace them once they get overly stained.

When my son was in kindergarten in city schools the uniform policy was that they had to wear WHITE shirts. They did not even get the light blue option. It was terrible. He came home from school dirty every day. I had to bleach his shirts to get them clean and we all know what bleach does to clothes after awhile. I was constantly buying him new shirts it seemed.

My kids nor my grand kids had to have uniforms, but I hear of the problems they are and although I am not against them - sure would save money on clothes! But like you said... WHITE? for a little kid? Something I hadn't ever thought about when I see them. I can see not a dark color as those show dirt and are warmer but still - medium anything would be better than white! OR how about a plaid shirt instead of a plaid skirt!
