OK as parents we all go through this you buy them two pack of sock and two packs of underwear before school starts and then during they year your wondering where did all the socks go or where is the underwear I just bought. For me it extends to clothes also I have no clue where things end up half the time I'm lucky if out of the five out fit I buy that i can find three of them matching . LOL!! I really think that the dryer is eating clothes, socks and underwear... Becuase no matter how much hunting I do I just can't find everything .. What about you doesthis happen to you often?

I swear the sock companies must be in on it too. Either they make one sock so the it completely disintegrates when it hit heat or the pay the gosh darned sock monster.

it does on occaision.. and quite literally.. the dryer DID eat them!! in cleaning out the lint trap underneath the dryer and replacing the hose that leads outside for the vent.. there were numerous socks and underwear lodged inside!! betcha if you dismantle the vent system... youd find some of yer missing ones too!

Hmmm so the vent system is the path to the black hole of socks. Hmmm interesting off to send the other half to get that dismantled.

it's like it takes your favorite socks and eats one or the same with your knickers. Gosh I just wish I could find all of the socks that I have lost with the kids I would never have to buy socks again.

I've decided it isn't the dryer....this after a year or so with no dryer. The conclusion I came to is that the school clothes do not like getting up in the morning and going to school any more than the kids do so all the socks and underwear hide under the bed and between the couch cushions. The pants slip behind the pile of toys on the floor of the closet and the shirts crumple themselves in the corner under the desk. Jackets, hats, and gloves don't mind school so much as they often stay after school or go home with the bus diver.

It never happens to me with underwear, but socks, socks are the bain of my life. They go in the washing machine as a pair they come out as a pair, they go in the tumble dryer as a pair and come out divorced. The only time I end up with a pair is when I peg them outside. I just have a basket full of odd socks at the minute and never find the other ones so it is sock shopping for me in the next couple of weeks.

I have this conversation with my boyfriend pretty often. I just bought a brand new pack of 9 sock pairs right before we left to New Hampshire, which was July 4th. I came home, washed them, and now they are missing. It wasn't like they were just like every other socks, these ones were colored. I had blue ones, black ones, red ones, and grey ones. I have no idea where they went to! It's almost like my washer or dryer is a black hole. The same thing happens with underwear. I buy new socks about every 2 weeks and new underwear at least every 2 months. I'm considering buying this device I once thought to be a stupid idea. It's called Sock Pro, keeps socks together when you wash them.

Bella having raised an exclusively all male family, I can honestly and with out reservation tell you I hate dang sock issues.... In fact I finally just bought a clean sock hamper, when the socks come out of the drier I throw them into the hamper (except for mine which I mate up) then the boys and my husband have to hunt down and mate their own... It is the one laundry chore that literally drives me nuts. Of course many here in mylot can attest to the fact that nuts for me is a short putt, but still its frustrating trying to hunt down mates that hours later you find out that tthe mate was thrown away because it had a hole in it but the matching sock was thrown in the laundry :)) Nope not now :)))) MOM DOES NOT DO SOCKS!

Oh Bella, I wash them it is just that when they come out of the dryer they are put into the sock hamper and they have to mate them themselves..... I am not so cruel as to make them wash them LMAO..

I don't a washer or dryer eating them anymore, but today I went to put on a specific t-shirt and couldn't find it anywhere. So I looked for another one to put on thinking, I'll have to change my jeans too, and went looking for both. No go. O.k. I know I"m getting old and senile, so I change my mind and go looking for a pair of slacks and a shirt. Can't find them either. Finally, I ask the hubs if he's seen such and such. He tells me to look out our bedroom window. ????? But I look and there is everything I can't find! Several days ago I did laundry and put everything outside on the line to dry instead of heating up the bathroom with the dryer. I hardly ever use the line outside and had forgotten all about it! LOL So look out your bedroom window. You never know what you'll find! ROFL

I know what you mean, Bella. Even while I'm sorting clothes to get them ready to take them to the laundromat, I wind up with at least one sock missing. The bad thing about it is that it's usually a sock that is patterned or a solid color like green or blue or whatever. Never a white one!!!! There must be a sock monster in my closet. That's where I keep the basket that I put my dirty clothes in.

I know what you mean I have tons of laundry baskets and even when you have one designated just for sock and undergarments they still tend to disappear. I think the laundry baskets have been paid off by the sock monster...

You bet this happens. Sometimes the washer eats clothes - especiall socks. I'll carefully put them all in and make sure there are complete pairs, only to discover that a sock is missing as I put them in the dryer. Sometimes the dryer eats the socks, though. Again, as I take the clothes from the washer to the dryer, I'll match up the socks and they'll all be there...until the dryer stops. I used to have a friend who said it was the laundry monster.

I have to agree with your friend it is the sock monster that will go in and no matter how many pairs you have you'll come out with mis matching socks. LOL!!

o.0 maybe things get misplaced by the person who does the laundry or the person who irons them. try searching for them at your parents or siblings closets. or someone else is stealing your clothes from outside like when you hung then to dry.

Don't you know that there is a sock monster that lives under your washer and dryer? He sneaks out during the night to get one sock from any pair. He only takes one never 2, just one. You can try to fool him by leaving a sock that doesn't have a match any more but he knows so you can't fool him. Once in a while he will eat some underwear for dessert.

Hello bellaofchaos, Thank you, thank you, thank you! My faith in MyLot has been restored today. You have addressed a topic which has been bothering me for weeks now. I have 14 (yes I have just counted them!) unmatched single socks and the number is growing every week. The matching socks are not under the bed and are not in the washing basket. My theory is that there is a problem with the washing machine and that they are somehow being sucked out, but I am not sure. I will speak to the house-caretaker about this, although I am sure he will laugh at me :-) I did find two at the weekend, which were hidden inside a duvet which had been washed, but that is small consolation for the 14 missing. Anyway it is probably a good excuse to get new socks, which is never a bad thing! Happy sock-hunting. Umart

Thanks for the happy sock hunting comment I think that the washing machine swallows them over the side of the basket or the dryer disintegrates them!
