I started a discussion here regarding "WHAT IS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES IN THE PHILIPPINES?". I just realized that when we talk about tourist destinations in this beautiful country, it is always connected with FESTIVALS. I've experienced some fun and fabulous festivals all over the country from the smallest towns to the biggest cities and there are also REGIONAL FESTIVALS. Every year ALIWAN FESTIVAL is being held here in MANILA showcasing the different FESTIVALS here in the Philippines. In TRAVEL MART, travel agencies also feature FESTIVALS in promoting the destinations they are trying to MARKET. NOW, it would be great if you can share us your place and the name of your FESTIVAL. We want to know more.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHAT'S THE NAME OF THE FESTIVAL IN YOUR PLACE? What made it unique from other festivals?

Well, I grow up in the city of Zamboanga which is part of Region 9 in Mindanao.. In our places, we are celebrating 2 Festivals.. The "Fiesta Pilar" or they called in spanish "Viva Nuestra Señora La Virgen Del Pilar" and the other one is the "Dia de Zamboanga" or "Zamboanga Day"... The most festival that we are celebrating is the "Fiesta Pilar".. During this day, we have different kinds of activities like street dancing (the most popular activity), modern dance, Ms. Zamboanga, and since Zamboanga City is what they called City of Flowers then we have "floral float" where each contestant from the different schools, barangays and other companies will make the best decoration of different kinds of flowers surrounded in there transportation..

Yes, Vinta is the most popular in Zamboanga.. People here are very good in making and designing VINTA.. They also used the VINTA for attracting the foreign country but because of the "NEWS" foreigners are already afraid to visit our city because of the terrorist.. Well, I know that there are some bombings and kidnappings here in our place but it is not that dangerous.. The "NEWS" are just being exaggerated from their news.. I think all cities here in the Philippines are also experiencing this kind of problems like bombing and kidnappings not just here in Mindanao.. Well, if people know how to bring her/his self in the society (like if he/she is rich, he/she must not show it in the people/society. He/she must look simple and being so attractive so that people wouldn't know that he/she is rich)...
Anyway, try to visit sometimes in our place.. This month October 12,2008 we had just celebrated the "Fiesta Pilar".. I hope next year you will be able to be part of our celebration so that you can see how Zamboangeños celebrate and worship this Festivals.. Thanks for choosing me as best response.. Thanks also for replying.. Happy posting...

The Vinta of Zamboanga has always been a favorite Icon for events. I've been a part of the DOT - TOURISM Treat to Balikbayan Event being held annually and every year we showcase different part of the country. When we did MINDANAO, we used VINTAs as one of the most significant icons.

Hi there princejayevents!
I am from the Summer Capital of the Philippines, the City of Pines. Yeah, I am from Baguio City. We celebrate the Flower Festival every year. It is known as Panagbenga for most. This festival is celebrated every year in February. The festival normally runs more than a month. The most famous part of the entire celebration would be the street dancing as well as the float parade.

Panagbenga is a colorful festival. I haven't had the chance to experience it myself but I always visit Baguio on or right after the Festival. Some friends in events and politics have always been inviting me to join them but I always end up being not available for that particular week. Will try to see it soon.

I am a gal from the province of Antique! We have this so-called BINIRAYAN festival which is held every December... It showcases the culture of our province and the richness of our lands... I'm proud to be an antiquena! I consider it one of the most beautiful places I've gone through! There's a lot of 'special' thing about our place... I just hope for more publicity of our province...

I am from Surigao and my place celebrates festival for patron saint Nicolas de Tolentino, in this place we observe the Bunok-Bunok Festivals since Bunok means flood, oftimes, my place have been area of floods but thanks God we are okey here. Folks from the Roman Catholic church believe that we are being protected by the saints thus, observed every 29th of September. Like every other tourist spots of the country, we take pride on the name as "the gateway to Mindanao" and one of the surfing capitals of the country since we have two major islands.
Its great to be here in this part of the planet, and I am proud being a Pinoy!

Surigao City? Del Norte or Del Sur? Sorry, i'm not so familiar with your province yet but SURIGAO is a very popular city. I've heard of "BONOK-BONOK Maradjaw, Karadjaw" and interested to see this colorful festival of your province. Thanks for the comment and it made me become more interesting to see your place soon.
