Defrosting meat

What is your preferred method? Do you use the microwave, or leave it in the refrigerator overnight? I have a pot roast to defrost and I'm wondering how long it takes to defrost using different methods? I've heard it's not safe to defrost in water, but my mom used to do that without problems. What do you think?

I rarely plan enough in advance, but I shop often enough that I often have meat in the refrigerator. I'm not sure what the reason was, just something I heard. Probably not a big deal, because plenty of people do it without a problem.

Well if you are making pot roast in the oven then you wont need to defrost it if you dont have time. Just give it a little longer cooking time. When I cook it I usually defrost it by letting it sit out for a couple of hours or I put it in some hot water.

I have heard it is not good to cook meat when it is frozen, it should be defrosted first. I'll be cooking the pot roast in a pot, hence the name. I'll slow roast it, so it'll probably be fine if it's still a little frozen in the middle.

I like to take mine out of the freezer the day before and leave on a plate or in a dish in the fridge.
I have not heard about it not being safe to defrost in water and I do not use the method but I would avoid the microwave..

My preferred method is soaking things in water. I've never had trouble with it, and don't understand how it could cause problems unless water was allowed inside the packaging. I also thaw things in the refrigerator, but that doesn't work well when I need something thawed quickly. I hate microwave defrosting because I've never been able NOT to partially cook the meat.

I agree about the microwave. I use it for ground beef when I am in a hurry, and I stop it every couple minutes and take out what is already thawed so it doesn't start to cook. But it's a pain and messy.
I defrost in the refrigerator when I plan far enough in advance, which isn't often.

If I have a large piece of meat, I will defrost it the day before I am going to cook it. That gives me a chance to season it after it is thawed, refrigerate, then cook the next day. I do not like microwaving thawing. I would soak in cold water or just leave it in the sink.

defrosting in water is a good n highly used method i feel
it is basically used by many people n i m also one among them
i feel its easy too just takeout the flesh n put it water if its
an urgency u can use hot water to defrost
as far as u dont leave the meat for long hours together n spoil it
i think its safer
just about one hour back or so u can remove the from ur freezer n
soak it in water to defrost it
i dont like to defrost it in microwave coz i experience that the meat starts
cooking there so i dont like it

I will defrost in the refrigerator when I think of it beforehand. I do not like to defrost in the microwave because the meat always gets partially cooked. I like to
try to cook the meat or whatever when it is fresh becasue I dont like to go through the whole defrost and cook cycle.
