I just watched a press conference that aired about yesterdays church shooting at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church. They are now saying that the gunman wanted to strike a blow at the "liberal movement". He was troubled by joblessness and a cut at his food stamps. Shooter targeted Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church due to "recent publicity" the church had received regarding its "liberal stance" on things. KPD Chief Owen says the actions of the church members who tackled the shooter likely saved many lives, as it appears the shooter intended to try to kill as many people as possible, and did not expect to leave the church alive. http://www.wbir.com/news/breaking/story.aspx?storyid=61360&catid=29 I am still very disturbed by this act of hatred. This church stands for love, unity and peace for all mankind. It just makes me so mad that someone filled with such hatred would come in and shoot and kill innocent people because they are "liberal". People like this really give conservatives a bad name. I know this is not how all conservatives feel and would not resort to shooting up a church full of innocent people to make a point. But this whole incident has really left a bad taste in my mouth. I just pray for the families and for the recovery of this church.

I would think that the best blow against the Liberal Movement is to quit the church and put all your faith behind a traditional bible believing church that takes a moral stance against killing the unborn, homosexuality, believes in keeping the ten commandments and keeping themselves free from sin or trying to. What that idiot did by shooting up that Universalist Church was to encourage those on the fence to become more liberal and support its teachings. See? If that man had just left the church and joined a traditional bible believing church, you would not have put your sympathies behind the Universalist Church.

Hi cynddvs, I am in complete agreement with you on this, and am saddened that such a thing could happen. From everything that I have heard this church appears to be a role model for how a Christian church should behave. I know there are many who will not agree with me but who feel equally sorry for what happened here. This was a man who was having a lot of problems and was very mixed up, unfortunately, he went there to kill rather than to listen. I feel certain that the church will recover and grow. Blessings.
