Transformer damaged.

I used to have a radio set that uses a stepdown with it,i got it blown up on sevral occassion and later they said the transformer is bad that i should change it;what exactly could be the cause of this transformer been damaged without repairs.

That does not sound like you would enjoy that. It would have make me bad if something like that happen.
Ofcourse it affected me because it was the set that i used while reading.
