If you dont know I am a EMT and work for a private ambualce service in Southeast michigan. When I first started this job a year and a half ago I was excited because it was my first EMS job. Well, everything started pretty good until last summer when I got a permaent partner. When me and her started to work with one another we were the only female crew in the company and still are. Everyother crew is male male, or male female crews.
To start off with back in October of 2007 the company put in Drive Cams in all the ambulances. If you dont know what a drive cam is it is a video camera that video tapes the people in the cab of the ambulance and the road at the same time. Drive cams also has audio in it so it can hear you and pick up what you are saying. These are only suppost to go off and record when the g force is acctivated ie breaking too hard, swerving, front end accident something like that. Mind you we never got a memo that they were putting these in the trucks nor did I ever sign anything saying that they can video tape me. Company said that it is only suppost to monitor if people were wearing proper uniform in the truck and so on and so on. So one day we get a call for a cpr run that was 35 miles from were we were at. So we were going lights and sirens to the call. During that time the camera went off at which time I was talking to my partner and I stated I did not like this company. Now me saying that is my freedom of speech. Also according to the lawyers I have spoken to they are not allowed to have those drive cams in the trucks anyway because of HIPPA and patent information. It is basically illigal for them to do that. Well, my company tried writing me up for it and I refused to sign the write up
Then after that I had put in a transfer to another part of the company which I had to interview for. The interviewer said oh I seen a tape where you said you didnt like the company. That made me mad because that was suppost to be between me and my supervisior not me the supervisor and the whole company. So my question is if this was you what would you do?

hi babyfirefighter I would quit first then sue the company
for illegal drive cams and I think with a good lawyer you
could win but you would have to work for a different company as it looks like this company you have been working for is not
going to give you an even break.

If I were you I would quit the job. You're company will be intimidated all the time knowing that they have an employee that doesn't like the company. And you too will not be at peace knowing that they know what you said.
What is it that you don't like about the company anyway? You said earlier that you were very excited with your job and then you talked on tape that you didn't like them. With regards to re-assigning you to another area, I think it is the prerogative of the company to assign you in positions wherever they want you to.
What did the company write to you about? If I were someone from administration, why would I care if you don't like the company? Everybody has his opinion, right? We cannot expect to please everyone.
But if I were in your situation, I'd quit or I will apologize if there's something to apologize, to make both parties at peace. The company must trust you again and you must also trust the company. If there is no trust between you both, I'd suggest that you quit and find another job or they'll keep tracking all your faults and your whole work will be chaotic.
