I dont understand some people here. when i tell them what the media has put out they tell me to shut the f$($*)# up. i am not the one who said it to begin with. so why back lash at me? another beef i have is some people i understand dont know how to spell. which is fine. neither do i when it comes to certain things. but there are some people here where there posts dont make any sense at all. now i think okay maybe they are from a different country and dont know how to spell in english. but there is one guy who is from the U.S and is 24 who cant spell anything correctly. do you respond to these people? how important is spelling to you when you look at the posts? do you have people that you only post to? i would like to know what creditals you look at when responding to posts.

I'm not sure which issue you really wanted to discuss but I'll do my best... People get very passionate for better or for worse about things here. Sometimes there's a "kill the messenger" mentality when they don't agree with what you say...even if you aren't technically the one who said it. If people are really saying those things to you, you can use the ! button to report them. That would constitute abuse. As for spelling...that's a tough one. I have been annoyed with some spelling issues, I'll admit that. People from other countries who struggle with English don't bother me too much. At least they are trying and if I have something to say I will respond to them to the best of my abilities. If it says they live here, it still doesn't mean much. How many people do you think moved here from another country within the past year or two? But once in a while I will run across a user that was born and raised in the US but still seems to have absolutely no grasp of the English language. It boggles my mind. I have run across these types of people in real life as well though. One in particular was honest that he had a 4th grade reading level....I was shocked...more for the fact that my second grader could spell better than he could. I do try to be understanding because I get that people can have disabilities an others just don't get a great education but it still surprises me when I see it in print. I'll respond to just about anybody that discusses anything I have something to say about....provided I can understand it enough to respond and I think that person will actually care about my response. I do tend to avoid users who never comment to any of their responses.

I can understand poor spelling to a point... hey I'm not the greatest typist in the world and have a very bad habit of dropping an S from the end of words. But I do try to be careful. But most people can usually understand what I'm trying to say without having to struggle through it. The discussions that are certain to get ignored by me: As with many others... TEXT SPEAK. This is not a cell phone it's a discussion forum. The word DAT instead of THAT .... just sounds so incredibly ignorant and it's just as east to type 4 letters as it is 3. PeoPLe tYpiNg liKe TheY aRe AddIcTeD tO TheiR ShIfT kEy... will definitely get ignored. This actually hurts my eyes and I won't even attempt to read it. Anyone who is telling you to shut up for any reason no matter what you discuss is being rude. If you don't like a discussion pass it by, if you want to join a discussion, speak your mind but be respectful. If you lose your temper.. get off myLot and go take a cold shower!

I love this response craftcatcher, I started a similar discussion about use of the english language and why, so called, educated people cant get it right. I can forgive typos and those that dont have english as their first language, but the blatant abuse of english really gets up my nose, and being rude is just unforgivable.

I like that "addicted to their shift key" that hurts my eyes too. I think you summed it up quite nicely. What really worries me is that the new generation will be unable to spell anything correctly if in their daily habits they continue to spell words in cyber language. I remember back when I was younger that they had big discussions about signs in store windows and in news print of the misspelling of words like "nite" "rite" "Qwik" so the written English language has been debated a while now. I myself will answer any discussion that I can understand grammatically and textually.

I just posted a discussion on really bad spelling. Maybe you are being too tough on poor spellers. Check out this discussion and tell me what you think http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1628212.aspx?p=1#2_17638095 Most people did not have a hard time reading the really bad spelling, bad grammar could be very different though.

pukaprat2 hi I would not work at criticizing anyone else's spelling until I was sure my own was okay. Credentials is not spelled creditals and I dont give a damn about others spelling if I can understand their discussion and am interested enough to respond to it. A lot of so called misspelling is our typos that we miss in spite of every thing and we all do it. I respond to well written well thought out discussions in spite of spelling errors . I try to post to all sorts of people from all the various heading, my friends first then on to others.

pukaprat said in his/her original comment that they don't always spell correctly either, and was mainly criticizing people whose spelling is so bad they don't make sense.

hmm, spelling is not so important to me. But maybe grammar does. Because it is easier to understand even if the spelling is incorrect but with grammar and correct use of words, if something is wrong then it is hard to read it. I think maybe some were drunk when they posted here in mylot and it caused the spelling errors ir maybe their keyboard is not functioning properly. =o)

Actually this is an international site, so we may find people who are not good in English and who are trying to write to imporve their language. The funny part of it is if the firsst and last alphabets are correct, our mind can immediatley know what word the writer is trying to say. Try it out. Yes, if the grammer is muddled, then it becomes hard to understand what they are saying. As for the guy from US, please dont judge, for maybe he was too poor to go to school or may have had a bad childhood with parents who did not care, so maybe he bunked school or whatever. Our childhood care and concern plays an important part of our upbringing. I would try and encourage that man to write more and maybe try and understand this problem. I would answer his discussions if I could understand him.

Spelling isn't that important, but I think it should make sense, some discussions I've seen don't make any sense. Most of the time I can figure out what the discussion is about. I don't have any certain people that I respond to, but I do try to respond to people that are on my friends list for sure, but I'll respond if its something that interest me and I think I have something to contribute to it. I don't have any special credentials, but if it don't make any sense I probably won't respond.

Spelling is a thing to take a good look at ,but im not the worlds best typist and make many typos, but there are many people who use Mylot as a way of strengthening thier command of the english language and so it is a very good way to do that,I seem to think that we have to take it all as it comes myself, and just accept the posts as they are written

i am big on spelling. yes, i will likely bypass some discussions if they are loaded with spelling mistakes. if there are a few errors but the topic still sounds interesting to me, i'll probably respond and just ignore the errors. but if the content is totally unreadable because it is so loaded with errors, then i will pass it up because i'll get a headache.

When I notice a post with a spelling/grammar mistake it slightly annoys me and makes me think less of the person that has posted it. A post should be well thought out and planned so that you look as smart as possible.
