What shows are safe for my daughter?

She is three months old and I have been thinking a lot about what kinds of shows I'll let her watch as she's growing up. What shows do you allow and what shows do you forbid? Why?

When my son was little, I was pretty strict about what TV he could watch. As a preschooler, he only watched PBS. At 9 months, he loved watching Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers. Later, he enjoyed Reading Rainbow and MathNet. He's 24 now, so I'm sure most of those are not available anymore. But you get the idea. I also had some videos that he loved watching - Christian ones for us - like Veggie Tales. Even today, he and I can break into song, remembering the songs from the videos, "God is bigger than the boogie man...He's bigger than Godzilla and the monsters on TV..." I also discovered that my son loved watching the old TV shows in black and white. He identified with the moms and dads on those shows. Figures, huh? They were around more. We had Care Bear videos and some Disney videos - but Disney can actually be frightening when you think about it. (I saw Bambi when I was 4 and still remember crying in the theater!) Don't know if this helps at all. The thing to remember in parenting is that once you give in, it's hard to go backwards. So...if you start out with very little TV and don't use it as a babysitter, but something you do together, that's the best thing.

Thanks Kenzie, I agree with your choices. Sesame street is still on, and I love the idea of veggie tales. I have already ordered a stack of their books for when Molly (my daughter)gt older. I also agree about Disney. Some of their stuff is very inappropriate.
