I Like To Thank Everyone For Their Conservation Efforts. Oil hits 7-week low.

Oil prices tumbled to their lowest level in seven weeks Tuesday as beliefs that record prices are eroding the world's thirst for energy sparked another dramatic sell-off.
The U.S. Transportation Department said Monday that U.S. drivers logged 9.6 billion fewer vehicle miles in May - or 3.7 percent - compared to the same period last year, the biggest drop ever for the historically busy summer driving month.
I know that many people drove less because they had no other choice, but many people like myself, cut back due to fuel prices being artificially inflated due to oil speculation.
I'm not 100% sure how oil speculation works, but those who speculated that the prices would continue to rise will probably be selling off and cutting their losses. This should cause prices to decrease ever further.
Demand for oil in the U.S. - the world's thirstiest consumer - continues to fall, dropping by 891,000 barrels per day in May compared the same month a year ago, the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration said Monday.
I hope as oil continues to drop, we don't revert back to our old habits. I hope we continue to conserve. Reducing our use of fuel is the one thing that the oil executives understand. They would rather sell fuel at $2 per gallon as opposed to not selling fuel at all.
Once again, I'd like to thank everyone around the world for their conservation efforts and particullarly the people of the United States of America, who have known nothing but abundant supplies of fuel.

I can't help but wonder about this. Granted we have been forced to change our ways but will we continue? Who knows, human nature being what it is, we could backslide to our old free wheeling ways. Plus we still have a problem because India and China are draining the supplies of oil too. I also remember the 70's when we had gas shortages. Many people in parts of Texas worked in the oil fields and were making good money until that happened.

That is what I hope doesn't happen. We cannot affort to backslide back to our old free wheeling ways of the past.
I know that India and China are using more of the world's supply of oil, but we can't worry about that. We have no control over their actions.
What we can do is control our actions. If, we the people of the United States, lead the way in regards to conservation, the world will follow.
Believe me, India and China don't want to find themselves in the miserable position that Americans find themselves in at this time.
We are showing good progress and that is why I thank the American people for their efforts.

lloyd, I too am thankful that we are all conserving. These high prices are really killing me. I paid $3.69 yesterday and they say that the price should come down another 25 cents by Labor day. There are a lot of people here where I live that are choosing to ride the bus in stead of driving, they save a lot this way.I do not work, so I do not have to drive much, when I go I do most of my things at one time.If my health was good,I would be riding a bike, but that is not possiable.

I'm glad that we are starting to conserve fuel. The high price of gasoline is affecting many of us. I'd like to see gasoline at about $2 a gallon.
Our light rail system and our buses have seen a huge increase in ridership due to the high cost of fuel. Hopefully, people will continue to ride them even if the cost of fuel comes down.
I'm seriously considering taking my bicycle out of moth balls. I'll be able to save money and get some exercise.

That's awesome. I know that many of my neighbors are walking to the store or riding their bikes. I wish I could do that. I've had to do things like plan trips to the store better...and only shop once per week or sometimes once every two weeks. In between, we can get by rather than wasting gas.

Thanks for bringing up riding our bikes. I have a bike in my garage that I haven't been on for about 2 years. I might just pull it out to make some of my shorter trips.
Planning your trip is a good idea. Not only can you conserve fuel, but you won't forget something that you really wanted to do.
I hope we keep up this conservation effort. It seems to be paying off.
