When should children be weaned off the breast milk?

I babysat my friend's one year old today as she returned to work for her first day back and baby was so upset as mum was not around as she is still breast feeding sometimes and has only started being weaned within the last week or so..so she is still very attached to her mother. I stopped breastfeeding when mine was 4 months old as there was a significant drop in the production of breastmilk and mine was getting frustrated and decided to just go for the bottle that she had rejected profusely a month before so it was easy to do I know some people breastfeed or have breastfed for longer than 1 year. When did you wean your baby to solids and formula? Is there a right time to do it? Is it better to breastfeed as long as possible?

My daughter pretty much weaned herself at 18 months. She gradually started nursing less and less and so my body started producing less and less so the pain when she stopped completely wasn't that bad. We started her on some whole milk at 12 months, we would give her a sippy cup in the morning with her breakfast but she was never fond of it until she was weaned. I don't think there is a set "right time" to wean your baby. I think every mother and child is different. When the time is right you will know.

That's true it does depend on the mother and baby but I think waiting too long makes it harder to stop due to the bonding..

i don't have a child yet... so i don't really know when a baby should be weaned... but from what i heard, every baby is different and it really depends on the baby... some baby can be weaned faster... some takes longer... but in average, i think babies should be weaned at about 1 year old... take care and have a nice day...
