I am in the Philippines and our Tourist Visa has just been approved. I figured that communicating from US to the Philippines is cheaper if I use US-networks when I go to the US. I have lot's of questions. Here they are: I have an open-line cellphone. Can I buy a Cingular sim and put it into my open-line nokia? Do they sell sim cards only? What is that "Pay-as-you-go" feature that they have? Is it a sim card with a certain amount of equivalent load? Does it have text messaging feature? Do we throw away the sim when it runs out of laod? Thanks in advance for all your info.

I believe Cingular also offers a prepaid SIM and use that SIM when you get to the USA. But you better be sure that your phone is a triband phone. Yes the sell SIM cards only. Yes they have text messaging feature but I suggest you should use our local Network Providers Roaming options for that. Basically if you are going to buy a prepaid SIM from Cingular it would mostly be used to call from there to back here in the Philippines. I hope my input helps.

Is Nokia 3230 Triband? I searched around for its details it's GSM 1900, GSM 1800 and GSM 900 (if that means anything). How about the Nokia N92? How do I know that these phones are Tri-band?

Actually I am a Smart (Philippine Network) user and I searched their site. It gave me around 3 options. (1) Roaming with the sim that I'm using now - which is 20 per outgoing text message and 20 for incoming - meaning I pay for both incoming and outgoing. (2) Buying a Smart Pinoy sim - which is roam-activated and still 20 per outgoing text message but 1 peso per incoming, and I am not going to pay for the incoming messages (3) Using a US-Network sim - and I don't know pretty much well on how to go about it, that's why I'm asking questions here :) If this isn't possible then I guess I'd better use the other 2 options left.

Yup those two phones are triband. :D they have 3 GSMs :D Well if you plan to make more calls than text messages then go buy a US prepaid SIM. But if you plan to send more text messages then go with the option of buying the Smart SIM. Though you have to buy an new SIM its better than having to pay the extra Php20 right? I hope you have a good trip.
