Bylaws of Calgary

Canada

I've heard recently, that it is now MANDATORY to license your cat as of January 2007. Dogs, I've heard of before, but never cats. Somewhat pointless if the owner especially doesn't bother to get the cat a collar as well. What I also thought was classifying as registering the pet is the tattoo or the microchip. My other question in regards to this is, if it's an indoor cat, would we still need to license them? I plan to ask the City of Calgary office in this regards. ANOTHER odd animal bylaw.....It is illegal for rats to be in the province of Alberta....it's true we don't have ANY RATS!!! To enforce this, they've put rat poison around the border of Alberta.....when I was told this, all I can picture in my head is a little rat resistance group with tiny little bandanas on their heads at the border, plotting (yes, the rats their selves, not a people group lol) Who else has an interesting animal bylaw they would like to add?

thats ok candy, like so many laws in this stupid town, they never even try to figure out how to make it work, they are just trying to find another way of stealing the peoples money, there are a lot of people here that will licence their cats, and they are the ones that will pay the price of always obeying the laws. Not that I recomend breaking the laws,at least most of them,I was born in Calgary, and have watched the city hall crowd do so many stupid things,it is just to bad we can not get a decent mayor. Have you aver been to the heritage flea market?fun place.lol Many Blessings.

Nope, can't say that I have, been to farmer's market though, VERY FUN!! But yeah I AM wondering how they're going to enforce this bylaw, like, what? Are you going to come into my house and check how many pets I have then check the database for their info?

actually, they will find out next time they take a census, now that you have to licence them, they can ask if you have any pets like they do for dogs,if they see or smell one,and you answer no,they will make a note of what they see or smell and it will go in with the slip.then they will start watching your place, and when they see a cat come from your place,or see you take anything for a cat into the house, they will have you. I am out at the Heritage flea market 7640 Blackfoot trail, hope you can make it sometime. Many Blessings.

We don't have to license cats in the town I live in but the town 40 miles away from me you do it is kinda weird. There are alot of stray cats in my town but there is no law dealing with cats like there is dogs. If a dog is running loose you get a dog at large ticket but the cats just run the town.

Well it's even more weird because insted of rats, we have jack rabbits, that are just LIKE stray cats, because there's so many of them lol. and there's a ticket for cats as well, not sure how they would catch them, and determine whom the cat belongs to, but it can be up to 500 dollars almost....INSANE!!!!
