I want to have a cookout here in a few weeks, like maybe the end of August. My grandma has a really nice house for that with a great deck out back. I want to invite my boyfriend and his family and some friends. I was wondering what kind of things i should make. We have a grill so definately something on there but I am looking for more than regular burgers and hot dogs. I want to go all out too and decorate, kind of an end of the summer cookout. Also some ideas for side dishes and salads too.
Thanks!

For the main dish, go for something like grilled chicken unless you are certain that everyone coming to the cookout is a huge fan of beef and pork. Most people go for beef or pork when grilling, forgetting that there are quite a few of us eat little (if any) of either.
For side dishes, consider breaking out an ethnic cookbook. Choose one cuisine, or do a bit of an "around-the-world" theme.

Chicken, corn, and lamb on the grill will really be something to look forward to. Add dishes like mixed buttered vegetables, corn bread and mashed potatoes with gravy will simply be amazing. Top it off with some fruit sherbet or fruit salad and you have yourself a party. In addition to the food I suggest you plan out a theme for your party including what to wear and the activities to do. I hope you have a blast.

One thing that is always cool but it's alot of work is to hollow a watermelon and to have some cantelope, honeydew and and water melon balls in it. You could aslo put some blueberreis in it. Homemade ice cream is really good to have with a nice end of the summer cookout. Pasta salad would also be soemthing easy to have.

Good day just mentioning the pickles make my mouth waters and I'm hungry at this moment. I don't know why I love those in my burgers and even just plain.

Good day.. yes cookouts is one form of bonding with your love ones (friends or relatives alike) I remember we used to have a big barbeque grill, my cousins would come with my uncles and aunties. I grilled, they cook other foods. I can see my younger cousins playing on the side with my dog running after them. This was when I was younger and somehow as I grow old I realize those kind of moments are becoming seldom and I missed it.

to me anything is good on a grill. as for side dishes u can't beat baked beans, potato salad, deviled egg, fresh tomatoes, slaw,& all the old stanbye's. homemade ice cream is always a treat.

You might go for something like a beach theme since you mentioned burgers and dogs. A few beach towels and umbrellas, beach ball or two things like that. Potato and macaroni salad and some deviled eggs. Some grilled corn on the cob and baked beans go well with a beach theme. also have some grilled veggies like broccoli and zucchini and summer squash as green salads. Water melon for desert and or home made ice cream.

We had a cookout for my sons first birthday party this weekend. We grilled too. My husband did hamburgers, hotdogs, kielbasa and sausage on the grill. Then I made devilled eggs and a big bowl of fruit salad. My mom brought veggies and dip. My aunt brought a tray of mac and cheese. My husbands grandmother brought her famous cheese hashbrowns. I also made some punch which is really easy. All you need is 1/2 gallon of fruit juice and a 2liter of sierra mist or 7up. I used hawaiian punch. then you just put some scoops of sherbert on top. Oh we also had macaroni salad.

Sounds like a really nice idea. I've never had a cookout or heard of one before but sounds a bit like a barbecue. I usually make greek salad (black olives, cucumber, feta, mint and olive oil) and a green salad. Some more unusual salads you might try are grated carrot, grated apple and ginger salad, or bulgar wheat and grated beetroot.

Something that is different from burgers and hotdogs but still definitely along the lines of a cookout you could do sloppy joes or even pulled pork sandwiches. I love pulled pork and I think it's great at a cookout. I usually cook it in a crock pot then just keep the pork in there and set the pot on the "warm" setting. Very delicious!
You can always have a theme for your cookouts too, my family did one one summer and our theme was "Western." We also had western games and stuff too but that was because we had a bunch of little ones there. You probably wanna stay away from games if it's mostly adults.
Good luck on your cookout! It's sound fun!
