Sun safety

I am going to Florida with my husband to see his father in about 2 weeks. I know for a fact that they aren't going to take me anywhere where I will get sun or fun. He has a screened back patio. It is all screen, sides and roof. Can I get sunburnt/tan through the screening? I am inclined to think not, but just want my friend's opinions. So should I pack the sunscreen in addition to a truckload of books or not?

Oh, yes - take that sunscreen. You can get FRIED thru CLOUDS! Screening isn't more than a way to keep out bugs, not UV light! Besides, its only a small bottle, or get it there, just remember - UV light can get thru almost anything!

Better safe than sorry I suppose as I am a blue-eyed blonde with fair skin and freckles!

You can get damaging sun exposure even on a cloudy winter day so sunscreen is always a good idea no matter what the conditions. You may not get burned through the sceen...I really don't know...but you should slather on the sunscreen just to be safe.

I agree. Maybe some body lotion that smells good and has SPF since I am just going to lay there and read?

Absolutely! You CAN get a sunburn through a screened patio if the sun is shining on you at all. That screening only protects you from bugs and stuff, but not from the sun. If it was me I'd sure pack the sunscreen and use it. If it was me I'd be wanting to get some sun and would be sitting in the sun's rays as it came into the room. A Florida vacation with no sun or fun, I feel for you! On the other hand, I hope all is well with your hubby's Dad and he's not sick or anything. Don't blame you, I'd get lost in a truckload of books too lol.

I have no idea why I am using all my vacation time for the year to go see him. I mean I love him and all, but it would be better if my sister-in-law and brother-in-law were going too. Last year, the four of us went to see him. I spent all my time with them and none with my husband. He spent his time napping and on the computer. FIL spent his time sneaking drinks.

Yes, you should bring sunscreen. You can get burned through the screen, through windows and when it is cloudy. A lot of people end up with skin damage because they think that the sun can't affect them in these situations, but it can.
