I heard heard so much about some myths on being pregnant on what to do or not to..and im going to share with you one myth which i guess a common one but sometimes coincide with..or just coincidence..my bro-in-law's wife had a brother that is handicapped and cant stand and is on a wheel chair all his life and his eyes is rounded like a shape of a doll ..and i ask her if it was in born or something and was confirmed that he was and added that during the first three months of conception of her mom..(her mom) was fond of looking to a baby boy doll or even to a puppet...that she bought one and put it in her room to look before and after she woke up ...and to her dismay after the delivery his newly born son looked like the doll she was fond of and worst of it ..he cant even stand on his own..do you think its really true then? a certain extra ordinary fondness to anything while conceiving will affect the unborn child? any similar story you can share?

That sure is a fallacy. I never believed such things even when I was pregnant and never had myself bothered with it. Those children are suffering from genetic defects and its already explained by science.

well i guess in one point just to make my mom be at peace of her beliefs i just follow what she says..since in my deepest thoughts that theres no harm in following what the elders beliefs..even though i dont believe on any of this

interesting! this is a very common myth in the Philippines. My mom always blame the food she used to eat while she was pregnant. My skin is very sensitive so I get marks easily whenever I scratch then she said it's because of lanzones, the fruit she used to eat. Some say when you are pregnant and you like this person very much, or the other way around, your baby wil have the same features. It's like, when my mom was pregnant with my youngest sister, she was very mad at me, like she freaks out whenever she sees me, and so a lot of people wonder if my youngest sister is my daughter..lol, we're look alike and have the same attitude. I don't know if these are true, but I think as long as it won't harm the baby on the mother's womb, keep them both healthy...she can eat whatever she wants, avoid or like anyone.

I think it was either coincidence or maybe precognition (seeing the future). But I'm sure there are many people who had a fondness for dolls/puppets, especially puppeteres who had babies that came out just fine. Take care

I've heard myths about pregnancy too. Different people told different dos and don'ts to me while i was pregnant. But i never believe in any of them. I did try to look at beautiful pictures because they made me feel happy. I did a lot of cross stiching works which they said is really bad. Now that my babygirl is 5 month old and i don't see any bad effects by doing cross stiching work. She's beautiful and adorable.

that's nice to know. And you remind me of one more thing,my mom urged me to eat a bowl of rice with an egg buried in it right before i was going to give birth. She said that it would make it easier and less painful. I ate it and still there was lots of pain lol.

This is just an old wives tale. It is absolutely impossible to have a child like a puppet because of a doll the mother was fond of. The cause the child was born like this is most likely due to an genetic defect which cannot be caused by a puppet!

Hello! Wow, that's an interesting story about pregnancy. I do not believe in none of these miths. They say that when the woman is pregnant, she starts having desires. The woman suddenly may feel like having a cup of tea in the middle of the night, so she has to wake up and make it and drink it, otherwise the baby will be born handicapped. I do not believe in this. There is no way for this to be true, why would it be like that? I mean, just because somebody has a desire and cannot complete it the son will not be born with a perfect health? Nah, for me those are just rumors. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

O! thats is interesting and my heart hastens to add it is a clear fallacy.. May his mom, would have took some meds at the time of his pregnancy.. which have spelled a side effect on this man, when he was in Womb.. Or else he would have...stuck to "home made ideas".. of aborting this child..and later giving it up, as it has not worked.. Vanities, she was lucky that she did not have a toy of an elephant or a teddy bear in her room.. My goodness.LOL..

Hello vanities, I never heard of this one. But I have a few to share with others here. In my cultures, there can't be two pregnant mothers stay together in the same house and I am not too sure what 's the reason behind this. During your pregnancy, you and your husband can't kill any kind of animals and if you do, your newborn might get the curse and looks like the animal that you killed. Pregnant mothers are not allowed to sit on the stairway and again, I don't know what's the reason. Sometimes, I feel it is a bit weird with this traditional do's and don't's but my mother always tell me not to go against it too much!

Dear vanities, There are lots more myths going around than given here. I was just going through all the responses here. I have seen many more in the net. I'll give you the links. Do not believe any of them but you all can have a good laugh over it as they themselves say. http://www.mamashealth.com/pregnancy/myths.asp http://www.rediff.com/getahead/2005/aug/04mother.htm http://kidshealth.org/parent/pregnancy_newborn/pregnancy/myths_tales.html There are many more sites like these on the net. Enjoy.

vanities oh my that sounds like a lot of superstitious nonsense to me. I do not think that the doll or puppet had a thing to do with her bearig a child with birth defects. more likely she was missing some important nutrients in her diet which led to a depletion of essential things in her body and left her child with birth defects. not some toy at all. I was fond of grapefruit and ice cream before I had my son and he is also fond of ice cream but hates grapefruit so no fondness of foods still has no effect on an unborn child.

Hey thats really unbelievable.. TO have a kid like a doll because she got attached to it.. no way... Here too there is a myth like that but not as serious as that. That is a concieved mom should look at her own face in the mirror or at her hubbys face often so that the child will be like the face that she used to see so often.... I dont believe in that too...

Sorry, I am not eligible to participate in this discussion, but my wife is now pregnant. We also have many myths in our society, but some of them have scientific base.
