I'm having a hard time maintaining the fabric of my clothes.. I mean, whenever I wash them, some of my clothes fades its colors especially the black ones.. and sometimes my clothes loosen its fabric, so those tight fitted tees of mine sometimes became a shirt.. here's how I laundry my clothes. - I use washing machine for those big clothes, and with a thick fabric and use dryer to dry them. - for the small ones, I just wash and dry it with the use of my hands. have I done something wrong? Aaarrgghh! some of my casual clothes looks old even if I just bought them recently.. so sometimes, I just use those at home, and buy a new one! how can I maintain the newness and beauty of my clothes? any tips please! I really need that..

separate all the white colors from colored shirts. especially the black & white colors, my mom is doing the laundry, she separates all the colored shirt from the light one, sometimes 'kinukula pa nya' so that it will maintain its color. after washing, she puts some downy on it. i got few old clothes here almost 3 years or more than 3 years but still it looks new. in fact i still got my shirt since i was 12 years old & until now im wearing it, but the color is still good..

I am also separating all my whites into the colored ones and even if I am using downy which is "isang banlaw", it is still the same.

To get your blacks back again you can put a cup of vinegar in the wash load. It will get the minerals from the water out of the blacks. When my blacks start to gray I wash them in vinegar and they blacken up once again. You might try to lay some of your cloths flat to dry or some of them line dry and they will keep looking good.

I'll put vinegar even if there's a detergent on water? for how long? and how does will it smell on my clothes?

Add the vinegar to the wash load with the detergent or when you hand wash the clothes. You rinse the clothes out so you do not smell like vinegar.

Look at the labels of your clothing carefully. Wash according to the manufacturers instructions. Only wash warm in warm and cold in cold. Cold does tend to keep clothes from fading. Rit Dye (or any standard dye that is colorfast) can bring back the colors of your clothing. Read the box before you buy and make sure you have enough clothing to be dyed the color you want. I wash almost all my clothes on the gentle/knit cycle (except jeans and heavy clothes). That helps them last longer. Washing clothes with your hands, be careful how you wring them out, some clothes can't take much manhandling. Sometimes drying them on a clothes line in the sun fades them. I turn my clothes inside out so they will fade on the inside and not on the outside. Some clothes stretch in the dryer and some shirk. Clothes that change sizes should be washed by hand or in the gentle cycle and put on a flat screen with legs to dry (they're called sweater dryers, they are sold many places or you can make one with plastic screening, don't use metal, may rust/snag clothes). I hope these tips help.

I always ignore the labels of my clothes.. thank you for reminding me, I see that labels have a big importance in washing clothes.. how will I dyed those clothes that already faded?. those I don't wring those small clothes of mine, I just hang them, and let it dry.. I see, now I know.. some of my jackets that are polyester tends to loose.. thanks for that wonderful suggestions, those will really help.

Dying the clothes, I just went to your profile to remind me of where you are located. Rit Dye probably isn't in the Phillipines. Here we have several ways to dye our clothes. We usually get a box of commercial dye and then follow the directions on the back of the box. We can also use dyes from food ( beet juice or grape juice for example-not sure how you would get black because tea and coffee don't really give black, more gray and brown. But food dyes aren't colorfast, and they tend to bleed onto other clothes so you can only wash with same colors). Laundromats now have clothes dying services where I live. Last time I went, there was a sign, "We will re-dye your faded jeans". It was really neat, they had a color chart. Mostly blue, I don't think I saw black there. Maybe your laudromats will dye clothes for you. You can ask at your stores if they have dye in boxes. Usually it tells you to disolve the dye in hot water and put the clothes in to soak. It give you an amount of time and then you rinse in cold water. This only works for clothing that can have hot and cold temps. No wool, that would shrink, not sure about silk, etc. I don't know if I've helped you very much. Take care

The best way is to hand wash for all the clothes and there wun be any problem.. lol =D But i guess most ple wun do that now, because there's a washing machine.. hehe =D What u can do is the separate all the black tees to wash, as well as those tight tees.. ANd do not use the machine dryer to dry the clothes, as it will only squeeze them too tight that it will spoil the original elasticity of the clothes.. And also, use softner to maintain the color of your clthes while washing ^_^

even though I am not using the washing machine dryer, it tends to loose its fabric.. I already bought softener for my clothes.. let's see if this will work.

i would suggest that u try woolite for dark color clothes. u should hang your clothes to dry on their own instead on using the dryer. that should work.

what is woolite? OK, I will try to wring them all, but I'll use dryer for the big clothes because my hands are too small to wring them.

Oh! too bad, we don't have woolite here in our country.

woolite is a detergent for clothes. it keeps the clothes from fading. there are two types. they come in both two different containers. the blue is for dark colors, and the white is for whites. u can find it in your local grocery store. i had the same problem. i used woolite. i didn't use the dryer for my clothes. i hung dry them. have a good day

It helps if you soak them in cold water for at least 20 minutes and air dry them right after buying them. That sets the color and loosens the fabric a bit. It's always worked for me.

That will maintain the color and the fabric will usually not shrink if you do this. Loosening the tension this way prevents shrinking.

i would stop using the fabric softener for the next several loads - it builds up, and it softens the fabric, causing it to stretch only wash and rinse in cold water

i am not good at washing clothes, but theire is one thing that i know.. do not mix colored clothes with white ones... this will ruin the color of clothes, will make the color fade... i have learn this from my parents, and friends...check also if you are using the right detergent or washing powder for your clothes.. do not use strong ones... after washing your clothes, use downy, this will make your clothes soft and remove wrinkles of your clothes..you can choose downy fabric softener or downy wrinkles releaser...

are you sure you are using the right amount and the right soap for your clothes? i dont hand wash. i am so busy to do that. i am a single mom of four children and i need to work at home and outside. so washing by hands will consume much time for me. i use laundry net when i need to wash clothes that are to stretchy that the washing machine will cause it loose. i dont habg out under the sun the colored and dark clothes so it wont fade. in my observation fabric softner causes fading of the colored and dark clothes so i dont use fabric softner on those clothes. i use laundry net even on delicate pieces of clothes or fabric. i hope the tips i gave you can help

thank you for that suggestion, I also don't hang my clothes under the sun but it was still the same. and yeah, I've noticed that using washing machine will loose its fabric, and I don't want it. I want to maintain its tightness.

well i can't give you any tips on how to laundry the clothes but i can definitely provide you a good solution to prevent those unwanted fading v-shape lines on your jeans. have you ever wondered why your old jeans has this v-shaped fading lines that looks like underwear outline on your jeans? it's not actually caused by how you did the laundry. no particular soap can do that. the BIG SECRET IS HOW YOU HANG YOUR JEANS!!!!. when you hang your jeans on a clothesline to let them dry and you're one of those who let the zipper open and let the button loose while they are hang, then that will be the result. so if you don't want those lines and you want to have your jeans to fade uniformly, MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU HANG IT TO DRY YOU BUTTON IT AND ZIP IT CLOSE. this also works with polo shirts or jackets or about any clothes that has a button or zipper. the reason behind it is that when you leave it open, the tendency of the clothes(the part that is not zipped or buttoned) is to fold in the direction of the gravity. the folded part will have a tendency to fade faster thus creating those unwanted faded lines. hope you learned something. have a good day:)-NEILâ„¢

I think it depends on the brand of clothes you're wearing,. Some clothes easily wear, colors fade or get's old easily. let me share you something, my mom always shops in a department store, and some of the clothes are still in use, until now they look brand new. I dunno her secret, maybe it's because she's using the same detergent eversince like I dunno when..lol.. Try to separate the dark colored clothes with lighter ones, or different fabrics, uhm, like cottons they easily wear so maybe you can handwash them, silk, satin polyester, I think you should wash them separately. Maybe you should avoid using bleach, my mom only use that for whites, and for the lighter colored clothes, and then for the darker. I couldn't add more, lol. and I know my mom's style is very time consuming, but you might try it if you want. hope that helps. see ya around.

I used to have to same problem! I use ColorSafe Bleach detergent and sofener now, and it helps protect the color. They also have a seperate detergant for black clothes so that they wont fade. I leave my clothes that are a little big in the dryer for a bit longer than usually and that helps shrink it a little bit. Good luck!

what kind of safe color bleach? I am also using softener, but it is still the same.. what kind of dryer is that? because whenever I use dryer on my clothes, my clothes doesn't shrink, it became more bigger and looser!

I usually use Clorox 2 Color Safe Bleach for Colors. It works pretty good to not fade the colors. I also buy some of the store brands, and they help too but not as well. I have a Kenmoore dryer but sometimes I take my clothes to the Laundry Mat because sometimes there dryers are more powerful because their Industrial sized. Hope it helps, have a wonderful night!

I just bought a detergent which is best for colored clothes.. it was too expensive if I'll always go to the laundromat to do my laundry.. but I think it can shrink my clothes.. I should just choose those clothes which have sensitive fiber for me to bring to laundromat.
