Here in the UK the age for retirement is gradually going up,and by the time 2010 comes ,we will all have to work a few years longer.Do you think this is right?you work until you are 67 to get a state pension?have you been fortunate enough to be able to have a private pension that will help provide? let me know your thoughts about your retirement.

dear ruby.....what a question.......really it is a sad and heart touching discussion here in my country retiring age for man is 67 and women is 65...what are we going to do in this age....when our eye-sight is weak and we cannot see properly, our legs are paining and we cannot run about and climb mountains, we have diabetes or some other kind of sickness so we cannot eat what we want, and we have not even proper memory so what are we going to enjoy........once I read somewhere that right age for retiring should be 18 to 50 and then we should start working.......lol. As per present rule I think after working so hard till age of 67 or 65...thier is possibilty that person will die by age of 70...75....and even if he lives, this living is as good as not living...so what will I say ruby....I wish we could change the system.........

Hi ruby, That is very sad! 67? wow! way too long! In our Country, the age of retirement is 60 years old and you are entitled to receive a pension from SSS, they will be giving it as monthly pension! Is that finalized already? wow! For me they are just too inconsiderate!

LOL in my line of work there was no pension plan etc....regardless though, I retired when I was 29 yrs old... do I think that its right for them to raise the age? Well no not really...but the sad thing is in order for ppl to survive (even though it'd still only barely) after retiring they NEED that pension cheque more often than not so what choice will they have ya know..Cost of living is becoming more and more outrageous but incomes are NOT goin up in order to match it so mroe and more ppl are going to NEED that pension when the time comes.....

I do not think it is right really, I think that a choice should be offered. It seems that now we are no longer entitled to have some years to just do as we please, retirement gets further and further away and so the golden years will be non existent. I have no pension, only what I will get from the government which will not be much so I guess I will just have to see what I can stash away between now and then and hopefully I will get some kind of work to put towards it as well.

When you think about it 65 or 67 isn't really old. People that lead normal healthy lives surpass that milestone by many years. And for a lot of people their work is their world. And the reality of it is that if you have not done a good job of saving and investing you may very well be working all of your life whether you want to or not. My personal goal was to stop working for a company by the time I was 40, to go into business for myself. I was able to meet that goal. I plan on working for as long as I can, for I love my job and the ability to help others. But from a financial standpoint I am not pressured to work. And I am not looking forward to a non-active life anytime soon.
