On Friday, Minnesota will join more than a dozen other states to limit text messaging while driving. The new law is one of the strictest in the country, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. "You're not able to read your email, send an email, sort through your messages," said Cheri Marti, Director of Traffic Safety. "It really is no reading or sending of any data communication while driving."The law also applies when a driver is stopped at a stop sign or sitting in traffic."
This me this is way behind to coming, this should of been in place long ago, so many accidents are the main cause of people not paying attention to driving cause they are more important to text there friends etc. I think this is one of the wisest things I have seen in along time.
What do you think.
The whole story can be seen on http://wcco.com/local/text.messaging.law.2.784230.html

I think it's great. I wonder how many accidents could have been prevented if ppl were paying more attention to their driving and less to playing with a phone. I can't imagine anything so dire that you'd risk other ppl's lives to talk about. Surely it can wait 5 minutes till you can pull off the road if need be.

i don't think u have any buisness talking on the cell phone or texting when u are driving. u need to be conentrating on your driving & how other people are driving & worryubg about your safety as wel as the other driver's safety. cell phones have taken over people's lives. pitaful!

In my country, if the police gets you talking on your mobile when you are drunk then for sure you will be arrested-but most drivers still break the rules, they never get caught becaus usually they break these rules where there are n policemen!

I know that there are going to be several people who protest this, and I know what they are probably going to say. "This is just the government trying to interfere again."
I know/know of several people who text while driving, and it makes me sick. A friend told me that her friend was doing it, and she had to grab the wheel several times to prevent her from running off road, and that she will never sit passenger in a car again with that friend driving (and I don't blame her for one moment!). I think that it is a dangerous activity. It would be similar to me pulling my PSP out and playing that while I am behind the wheel. I know that I can focus on several things at once, but the road is unpredictable, and I know that I will more than likely get in an accident. I am glad that they are doing this, hopefully driving will become safer.

It is funny how much people just can't survive for the commute to somewhere without having to grab that phone and text someone,I know that we live in a constant go go go economy but come on.I just don't understand it and very dangerous. I agree with you if I am riding with someone and they start texting I actually grab the phone and tell them to pull over or let me out.I won't tolerate it..seen too many accidents.

Hi! i am from england where we have had these rules for a while. I agree with you, even though it is tempting to respond to text messages whilst driving it's also really dangerous as it distracts you and can cause accidents. it is no worth risking an accident and potentially a life just to reply to a text message from a friend. if a message is very urgent then surely it is worth pulling over for! unfortuntely people don't always obey the rules and accidents to still happen but i agree with you these laws are there for good reason.
