Who here just watched the President's little 'speach'?

Just got through watching President Bush's little talk on the war in Iraq. Who is he kidding? What they won't do to make themselves look or sound better. He stated that NOW tours in Iraq will be cut back to 12 months instead of 15. Hello? My son-in-law has completed three tours of duty in Iraq, and thankfully came home safe. Each time he was informed that he would be sent over there for 12 months, and around the 11 month was told (while in Iraq) that his tour was being extended, you guessed it, to 3 more months! I solidly stand behind our men and women in the armed services, but our politicians keep trying to make it all sound better than it is! So, who else watched this? What is your opinion of what he had to say?
A Texan, that didn't vote for Bush!

I didn't watch it, I can't stand watching him trying to speak. A friend of ours is currently in Iraq and he wasn't suppose to go back, but, somehow, and he didn't ask to go back, he is there. It seems really funny how McCain is mimicing Bush at every turn and issue except for the troop withdrawl.
Hopefully soon all the troops will be home.

I do hope they all come home soon. Bush also danced around that issue without really saying anything precisely, which he is good at.

That doesn't surprise me at all. He is an idiot. I see if different responses a welcome to the North would do, I haven't ever been to PA but maybe their winters aren't as cold as ours are in Ohio when it's -20 degree lol. Hope you are enjoying the "wet" heat, and making new friends.

So far, with the exception of the ice/snow storm, Feb '07, the winters haven't been too bad. I just don't drive in the snow! lol I know my own limitations, and I'd rather stay home then put myself or others in danger. And from what I've seen, there are some 'natives' here that should do the same lol. The heat here doesn't bother me, I lived on the coast in Texas for over 20 years. So the summers here haven't been bad, for me. I do love the difference of the mountains here, when compared to the hills of Texas.

I'm afraid I didn't see Bush's speech either, to be honest I just can't stand to see or hear him anymore, not that I ever particularly enjoyed it. Bless you and your family for what you've been through! I know it's not for me to say and I have not idea what your son-in-law feels about this but I think three tours of duty for one person in this relatively short amount of time is outrageous. I think it's outrageous that our troops were over there without the proper armor for their vehicles. I think everything about this war is outrageous and I can assure you and your family I support every one of our troops with every ounce of my being. I'm sure I'll be hearing relays of our fearless leader's little speech as the day goes on and perhaps I'll stop back here with more to add. Thanks, by the way, for being a Texan with a conscience!

Oh it goes way beyond just the armor on the vehicles, my daughter had to send him sheets! Our government can send them to war, but not even provide the basics that they need. I agree with you on the number of deployments, as does my son-in-law, and yet, it looks like he may be deployed again. I'm now also a Pennsylvanian with a consience, lived here for a little over 3 years.

That's absolutely indefensible! SHEETS? Plus, as I'm sure you've heard, we've lost a number of troops to electrocution while taking a shower due to improper grounding because the U.S. subcontracted the electrical work out to locals who weren't properly trained. I've been hearing and reading for all these years since this war has begun about how we have a voluntary military and our troops all chose to be there but enough is enough! Never before, at least to my knowledge, have our troops been called upon to go that often and for that long at a time! These are human beings with families at home and they deserve our best and they're not getting it.
Welcome to my state of Pennsylvania.

Kennyrose, I've said it before but it bears repeating - I'm very sorry for the loss of your husband in Vietnam. In my opinion that was another war that never should have happened but that's been hashed and rehashed enough times already I suppose. Anyway, it's been proven that lies were told to get us into Iraq and Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, that was Afghanistan and things are worse than ever there now and our troops are paying the price. I just wanted to say I support our troops totally but I don't think we as Americans have to support the Commander-In-Chief to be considered good or "true" Americans. I noticed you didn't mention any of the concerns of the OP, such as the extended tours and the frequent deployments not to mention lack of proper supplies. The Commander-In-Chief certainly bears some responsibility for those things, does he not?

I think they are trying to do what is best for the troops, and have been HOPING for the longest time go be able to lessen deployments, but they have to go by what is happening over there and things don't always happen the way we want them to. I'm glad your son-in-law is home safe, and I can't imagine what your family must have endured during his deployment. I'm sure with all you have been through it is hard not to take it personally.

I do not like to get into politics on here and I did not watch Bush's little speach. I know what you mean about men and women get over there to do their 12 month tour that turns into 15 or even more and most of them have to go several times. I did not vote for Bush either and I am a NATIVE Texan, unlike Bush.

The current president has given us so few grains of truth on Iraq (and other issues) that is seems wisest just to assume the worst where he is concerned. So if he offers "truth," assume equivocation.
