Hard to eat right

I was diagnosed with high cholesterol a few years ago but mostly just ignored it. I recently found out about blockage and I have decided to try and eat a heart health diet. This is hard to do because it seems like this is a expensive way to eat and I miss having fats in my diet. I was always a big dessert person but have cut out sweet foods except for fruits. It does seem that the fruit cuts down on the desire for sugary sweets. I really miss having red meat as this has always been a staple in my diet. Have any of you had to face this and if so how do you handle having to eat right?
