Help with my prfile page....

I am wanting to change my profile page but I dont know where to start. I would like to put banners or links on it but I am not sure how to do it. I would like to change the background as well. I am not really sure if I can change the background or not but if I could how would yoy do it. I am still learning the new setup so if anyone can tell me what to do I would really appreciate it. I am a computer dummy so I need help. So if anyone can tell me how to put banners or links and change the background I would really appreciate it. Is there anything else you can change on your profile page as well?
